You got ANYTHING to back up Kelly would make $6 mill? Sounds like the same bull**** excuse the used to pull out before the Bhop fight to me. If Williams wants a shot at the belts, let him fight his way into a mandatory position and take the standard.
I don't see anyone outside of the most intense PW hugger talking about a clean 50-50 split of purse. Most of the people here feel anything from 60-40 to 57-43 (I think that was the crazy thing WWM said ) is fair. Most would agree.
Right I've NEVER heard that before. I need to see some evidence it existed before this thread was created.
Same **** they used to scuttle the first fight against Pavlik. Some phantom money they claimed was out there and due them. I'm sure his source is telling everyone this for a good reason. :yep
It took a long time for me to really decide what happened the first time around. Then I read an interview where Peterson accused Arum of "taking money off the table". Then it all fell into place. People seem to think Kelly is the cash cow of boxing somehow. I think $6 mill would be double what he made against Hopkins and I'm pretty sure that was his biggest payday. And NBA was saying was it 6 or 8? To fight Williams? Inflation kick in while I was at my sons for a few hours? :nut
The TV money should be split evenly - with KP getting perhaps a 55-45 advantage. The gate however should be heavily in Kelly's favor. Williams fought in a ballroom last time in AC vs Martinez. Kelly brings thousands of people there from Youngstown and all over the country.
45/55 for Pavlik is fair since Williams did not convincingly beat Martinez. If he had KO'd Martinez or beat him by a wide margin then 50/50 would be fair, even as the challanger.
If this was possible. It's probably the best answer. Pavlik brings a lot of people to the arena/hall/stadium what have you but doesn't get people to watch on TV.
Well anything is fair provided both parties agree to it. If I was Pavlik I certainly would not consider it fair; Pavlik is the champ and by far the more popular fighter. As the bigger draw and the champion I would bargain for much better terms than 50/50.
The sad thing here is that Kelly Pavlik only sold under 4K in his home town and Paul Williams sold 3K in Atlantic City!! I'm not certain the numbers for the Taylor/Pavlik fight but at that time JT was the champ and had a bigger following after he beat Bhop! The KP vs Bhop fight had people from Youngstown there but to tell you the truth I'm certain Bhop had more fans because he is a Philadelphia fighter and thats so close to Atlantic City!! Won't even talk about the Lockett fight! If there was a venue in Atlanta that supported boxing i'm certain PW could sell about 8K because of his North and South Carolina plus Georgia fan base!!!
I guess so but Pavlik has been a disappointment as the MW champion with his low level title defenses and inactivity!! Pavlik had drawing power right after the Taylor fight but has lost all of that cause of his antics!!
