So I started wondering about when James Kirkland's next fight is. Say what you want about him, the guy is never in a dull affair. This led me on a treasure hunt to find out what the latest developments are in the SMS promotional stable. It's pretty shockingly bad.

    Here are the facts:

    Andre Dirrell :

Signed to SMS in Jul 2012.
Total number of fights since signing: 0
    Next scheduled bout : none
    Avg fights per year: 0

    Yuriorkis Gamboa :

Signed to SMS in Jul 2012
Total number of fights since signing : 2
    Next scheduled bout : none
Avg fights per year: 1 (soon to be lower than that)

    James Kirkland:

Signed to SMS in Oct 2013
Total number of fights since signing : 1
    Next scheduled bout : none
Avg fights per year : 1

Sadly, 50s most prolific fighter is likely:

    Billy Dib :

Signed to SMS in Jul 2012
Total number of fights since signing : 3
Next scheduled bout : Brent Elliot on May 31, Australia. Opponent record:

Probably not the worst, but close to it.

50 cents is a rapper, and not a businessman.
His lack of business skills became apparent when he allowed his personal relationship with Mayweather to sabotage his business relationship.
Unless 50 engages and becomes a student of some boxing business mentor, I don't think that he can improve.

This is a riotously funny quote from Dirrell when he got signed in 2012:

"As 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather boost my career, I can boost theirs as well, and we can make a big name for The Money Team Promotions. I’m really blessed and I’m really fortunate to be in this situation right now."

I think is has more to do with them black balling him and his fighters. He talked crap about Oscar, his fighters made bad blood by signing to him.

Which goes to my case about him being a terrible promoter. You don't just walk into the business and start trash talking the bigger players that you're inevitably going to need to work with.

You really can't fault Curtis....he was trying to get his guys fight, but only Dib was actually wanting challenges.

If Dirrel wanted fights he had fought 3-4 fights since his spoonfed fight with Cunningham.

There are plenty of fights Gamboa and Kirkland could have made as well.

MOF.....Kirkland was offered a fight with GGG, and it woulda been a solid seller and resume booster for the winner.

Instead, he all but said NO. It wasnt 50 saying no, it was James himself.

And yeah, Dib is fighting a journeyman, but he's also comebacking from a 3 fight run where he hasnt looked in form.

But hell, at least the man wants to fight.

sadly, 50 is stuck with primadonnas who want huge $$$$ for soft touches.:rofl:rofl:rofl

people who say he's not a business man don't know anything about 50 cent. he's made more money from his business ventures than he ever will from rapping.

as far as promoting goes he messed up because the two biggest promoters don't want to work with him. top rank don't want to work with him as gamboa left and they want to make an example out of him for any other fighter who may wish to leave in the future. golden boy won't work with him because of the Kirkland issue and it may harm their relationship with Floyd mayweather.

with no one willing to work there's not much he can do, he is just best getting out.

K2 was more than happy to work with him. Sauerland would have no problems with him, and Im sure FW@nk would too. Plenty of names and decent $$$ fights out there to be had.

He can get a couple journeyman types to bring Dirrel back, then set him up to fight ward, thru G005EN.......Move him up to LHW to fight KOvalev, Main Events. Or Bute, Interbox.

Kirkland could fight GGG, Lemiuex, any # of decent $$$ scraps in UK/EU, or even get a shot against winner or loser of Martinez/Cotto.

There's plenty of $$$$ to be made for 50s fighters......his guys just don't want mediocre paydays in risky fights. And 50 can't put a show on with say, Dirrel vs Mouton, Kirkland vs Roman, paying Dirrel 100K and Kirkland 100K, their oppnents 25k each plus another 50K-100K in event promotion/staging and expect he'll make back the 400+K invested.

He could do that a couple time under the presumption that at some point these guys will step up and get it on with other top competitors, but only Dib has PROVEN he'll take the $$$$$ he's worth.

The other fighters think their worth more than they are.:patsch:patsch:patsch

Actually K2 never wanted the Kirkland fight, that was Hershman's harebrained idea. K2 was only going to take the fight if HBO shoved it down their throat. Kirkland did pull out of the Willie Nelson bout though, for no reason that makes any sense to fans.

50 Cent is actually a great businessman/promotor (Vitamin Water SMS Audio, SK energy drinks G Unit etc) even moreso than Floyd (lets be honest what is Floyd really doing to generate money outside of boxing) he just isnt as savy in sports business /promotion which is a different animal in itself perhaps someone like Jay Z would have done better with this venture he kinda is with Rocnation sports

Furthermore he shot himself in the foot buring brides with Goldenboy, Al Haymon and Schaefer when Lou Dibella tried to work with him (similar to how he tried with Dame Dash) he sorta brushed it out but yea its not working out for 50 Gamboa Dirrell or Kirkland

I'll admit when 50 was still down w/the #TMT & him & Floyd announced a possible merger I was all in & thought that by this time they would be major players...

After the split tho... The momentum fell flat.

50 cent is good at making terrible music and using his name for sponsorship money, he is out of his depth in boxing where intellect and savvy come into play. He has to be the worst promoter currently and probably all time.
