    In my memory yes

    It got Hershman canned

GGG was supposed to be this huge star but 97K was very low when they were expecting 300K plus

Canelo did over 300,000 his first ppv

PPV is killing the sport. Goading other people over it or gloating about a certain boxer's PPV numbers really doesn't help and makes you look like a little girl bragging about the amount of twitter followers Justin Bieber has.

Why 97k ? You could say 37k with the same level of credibility.

    The correct number is 150k.

Unless HBO has released an official number that I'm unaware of (which they very well may have), I'm not inclined to trust a fighter's promoter at his word.

I'd imagine that the true figure lies somewhere in between, but we'd never know unless HBO makes a release or confirms one of the claims that's been thrown around.

Of course K2 would say 150k to pump up the fighters status

97K came from an outside source with no bias either way

They should just keep GGG on hbo instead of trying to hype him as the next ppv star

I would say he's almost certainly heading back to HBO, unless it's a fight with Lee, Ward, or obviously the Cotto/Canelo winner.

This fight should have never been on PPV, not as the headliner. It would have been better as a co-feature to Canelo vs. Cotto.

That actually would have been an appealing card where the whole was greater than the sum of its parts.

Roy Jones sold 90k on two separate occasions on HBO PPV. He was supposedly the P4P #1 fighter in the world.:rofl

A lot of awesome P4P talents lack marketability. So I'm not sure why you would be suggesting that being the P4P king has any direct correlation with PPV sales.

Oh, and back to the threat topic, I'm almost certain that Hopkins-Dawson did worse.

I've heard too many sources say 150k to buy the 97k number.

And, no, it's not the worst by a long shot.

    Hopkins-Dawson did 40k. Morales-Maidana did under 50k.

Hopkins-Pavlik only did 190k and Cotto-Judah, Miguel's first PPV, did 225k for perspective (with admittedly less other sporting competition on their respective fight nights, but it's impossible to say what impact that had.)

Which sources other than G's people have had their own independent release that corroborated the 150k # without quoting G's numbers?

Since HBO hasn't (as far as I know) confirmed these numbers, which I'm almost certain they are legally obligated to report accurately, then I'm inclined to believe there is some over-inflating that stems from people with a vested interest in his success.
