Is a 3 inch height advantage alot?

Not as much as a 4 inch height advantage

Talk about height and reach advantage, it reminds me of Hearns vs Duran.

Hearns carried a 6 inch height and a 12 inch reach advantage.
Thinking about it now, its hard for me to give Hearns all that much credit for that KO.

Can you imagine that type of a physical advantage then you throw in the fact that Hearns was quicker, faster, much younger, and Duran was well on the downside of his career.

 

it really depends on fighting style, strengths and weaknesses and the reach advantage.

some fighters think its to their advantage to fight taller longer fighters while some feel its a disadvantage.

it all depends on ones fighting style and their mindset
reach advantage is more of an advantage than height advantage.

what does just a height advantage give you ? now with a 3" height advantage you would have to assume you'd be getting at least an inch or so in reach advantage too.

tho its dependent on body type, just because one is taller doesn't automatically mean they have a reach ad too. way too many variables to have any true conclusion

 

Depends on a guys skill level. Donaire had about three inches on Rigondeaux, Marroquin had about four. Rigondeaux's Japanese opponent tomorrow will have a 7 inch height advantage. It won't make a difference to Rigondeaux. But it could make a difference if the opponent is skilled enough. Most boxers aren't Rigs. If Donaire had the size advantage over Walters, he wouldn't have lost. Donaire doesn't have the type of skills Rigs has to negate size advantages. Rigondeaux would have never gotten busted up by guys like Vazquez Jr, or Mathebula, and while Walters hits hard, I don't think he has the skill level to take advantage of Rigondeaux's 5'2.5 to 5'3 stature. It all depends on the skill level of the guys in the matchup.

 

At the end of the day it's all about skill .

Iron Mike was considered a midget for his division and yet he still ran threw his opponents who were as big as (6'6)

Well yes, but its all relative too. Its how you use the advantage or minimise a disadvantage of being shorter that really matters.

Donaire had an inch and a half on Rigondeaux. Also, boxrec lists Rigo as 5'4. But you are right about that ridiculous 7 inch height advantage of the dude he's fighting tomorrow. That's some Hearns, Saddler, Arguello, Hopkins, Foster, Spinks, Robinson type height advantage bull****. Somebody doesn't want to fight in their own weight class. But at least he's only got a 3 inch reach advantage.

 

I understand your thought process, but you can't blame a tall guy for being able to safely make weight.

 

Mike was special. Any other midget would have his cranium crushed like a can fighting them giants. In retrospect he was amazing. If we compare how he did with the size disparity compared to Pac vs Margo. Tyson had as much as 6-7 inches on him vs Pac's 5 inches, but the weights oh wow. Tyson was what 220 in his prime vs guys 30-40lbs heavier! Yeap, Mike was special.

Paul Williams towered over his opponents and always had a huge reach advantage yet by his fighting style you'd never know it.
