And you can tell who the novice/backyard boxers are. It depends on styles and levels. Decent footwork, movement and timing negates any reach advantage. All things being equal a 3 inch height advantage might mean something, if you have two predominantly outside fighters. On the inside it's likely a disadvantage.
It's all relative. Depends on how the fighter fights first off. Also depends on what weight it's at. SMW and above? I'd say no, but good fighters can still use it to their advantage.
If the shorter guy is an inside fighter or swarmer and the taller guy is an out boxer its a war of attrition. When the out boxer has his range established and can move around where he wants to, he has an advantage. When the infighter gets in close or forces the other guy into the corner or onto the ropes he has the advantage. If both are out boxers than the taller guy probably has a physical advantage.
It depends on the styles of the fighters, but in general yes 3" in height is an advantage, particularly if the taller fighter prefers to operate on the outside. But reach, skills, power, durability, stamina, heart defense, ring smarts, experience and speed count for a lot too!
reach is more important. 3 inches isn't that much when you are both crouched in a boxing stance. Also the shorter guy could have a bigger frame, or have more reach (floyd is 5'7 with a 6ft reach)
You can't win fights even though you have size and power edge over your opponent if you don't even know how to use them. SNV is God tho.
Yes.....power is lost having to punch up vs down but body punchers are not affected as much by being at a height disadvantage. Some fighters don't utilize their height advantage well so they give up that physical advantage in a lot of cases. But 3 inches may not be a lot in other situations......but in terms of a height advantage in boxing it's a big deal in a lot of situations.
