is a fighter's nationality the most important thing for you to support them?

most of the posts i've read about hatton v pbf or calzaghe v b-hop split most of the fans UK v US. is the fighter's nationality really more important than their fighting style, character, KO%, what they do outside the ring...etc?

    cheers

Considering I am white European residing in th U.S and my favorite fighter is Many Pacquiao, I would say that I careless about a fighter's nationality.

    Absolutely not.

I support the good fighters. I don't care if they come from Mars. A great boxer is a great boxer, and if you love the sport, you cast aside nationality.

I generally do support fighters from my background, but I must genuinely like them to become a fan.

I like Hamed/Shieka and Cotto/Trinidad, but I am genuine fans of them b/c they are exciting, enjoyable to watch, etc.

But I do support other PR fighters...even Ruiz...

p.s. my fav fighters are Trinidad, Hamed, Benitez, SRL, Morales, Mayweather if that gives you an idea of where my bias is, nationality-wise....I swear I like white fighters guys though, just can't think of one I'm a big fan of.

My fav fighters ever are Hagler, Tyson, Hamed, SRL, Duran, Pacman, Eubank. I think it comes down to wether I find that person likeable and that they are a good fighter. Right now im liking Cotto & Calzaghe, both seems likeable and very good. I liked guys like Eubank & Hamed cos they were funny, at the same time they had exciting styles. Now guys like Hopkins, I use to think the guy was OK but after seing his sock video, its hillarious. Guys like Hamed was cocky as hell but they did it in a jokingly way, Hopkins seemed dead serious in wanting people to call him a legend. Im like, WTF?

Alot of boxing fans, even ones who love the sport, do not cast aside their nationality when deciding for whom to root.

:good Eubank was brilliant at it. I mean hamed was annoying but fantastic. I remember when he fought at the MEN arena it took him 10 minutes to get in the ring and about 2 mins to beat billly hardy. My dad wasn't impressed because he paid nearly 400 quid for two to watch it near ringside.

That's what I thought you meant. It's pretty stupid, IMO, and I would say they are not true fans of the art at all.

This isn't nearly as bad as other forums. Have you checked out youtube comments lately? You'd swear there was an international race war going on by reading them. I think ESB members at least try and make an effort to not get racial, being more die hard fans than your usual sort. But for the public it always comes down to choosing one race over an other.
