Is a PBF loss the best thing that can happen?

Before I'm accused of being a hater, I am a big fan of PBF- especially in his days before campaigning at 147. That said, should he lose against JMM, or anyone else afterwards for that matter, will this be the best thing that could happen for the sport and the fans?

I say this as surely if he were to lose he could no longer play the 'I'm the main draw so I dictate the terms' card. Also, maybe it could provide him with some more focus and desire to actually want to face the best out there and not 'cherry pick'; something he has been accused of doing recently at 147 more than at any other time in his career.

    Your thoughts?....

It depends how he reacts to it.

If he 'does a Naz' and decides to pack it all in, then no.

If he comes back stronger, more determined and a little more willing to take risks having already lost his '0', then yeah.

I dont think Floyd could be anymore driven than he has been in
the past, with an ego like his - I think he has maximum desire in
the ring, because he doesnt want to be beaten, he prides himself
    on having remained undefeated.

I suspect Floyd has a mindset where he really does think he is
the best ever, ppl like to say that its a front - but I reckon
that floyd really believes it ( not saying that I agree! ) therefore
having that mindset, I think would have more of a will to win -
trying to protect his unbeaten status.

I think Floyd fights JMM, Pac/Cotto and then retires.

I just want to see him fight Pac, just a dream fight to watch.

with his ego, i doubt we the fans will ever know exactly what it does to him. He'll play off the loss to being rusty and thats it. he'll down play the hell out of it.

If he wins, then we will still have to hear how he is the greatest of all time. Regardless of the fact that he is making JMM jump so much weight.

I say he fights the winner of the Pac-Cotto fight. If he wins that, then he can have the P4P title.

If Floyd does not lose against JMM, he will still get the = of the worst beating in his life.
    (Besides from his Danm! daddy)

PBF will show all his limitations Vs. Marquez.
including his age/rust/motivation & lack of output.
Win/Lose People will be jumping to fight him.

for me Floyd has come to far to lose now as much as some of us would like to see him come crashing down to earth with a thud i would like to see him get a few more fights if he gets past JMM ideally Pacman and Mosley then retire. I think if floyd was to lose he's
Ego would not be able to handle the situation. How he would react on this is anyones guess

No. The best thing that can happen is the best fights are made and the best man wins.

It would be absolutely terrible for boxing if he lost to JMM.

If PBF loses then he gets backed into a corner. He will then have to prove himself. He will go back and focus then look for a fight with Mosley, Cotto, Pac, JMM or anyone else to beat to prove he is back to his old form. And will try and prove that his loss to JMM was due to ring rust. If he beats JMM he stays on his high-horse with the attitude "I don't NEED anyone". So yes, him losing will be great for boxing. But he won't lose.

Good points. That said, do you not feel that he would want to be vindicated in the best possible way? If he were to lose and to return from it, PBF may go all out to seek redemption as that '0' means everything to him. He may go all out to silence critics and in doing so he may decide to fight Mosley, Williams, Cotto/Pac et al. It's just a thought.:think

Floyd is a great fighter and a HOF, but in my mind he has already lost a fight! He was given a gift in that first fight with Castillo and he even knows it.

A loss to JMM would have very, very significant impacts on his legacy. I would not be surprised if he retired straight after it, as it would probably show that he hasn't handled the time off well, and has declined significantly. I don't like taking anything away from a fighter like JMM, but he has dropped 40-50% of the rounds in his last two fights to fighters not even close to Mayweather's level, nor close to his size. This is a fight Mayweather is expected to win.

Right now theres really one possible megafight in boxing, Pacquiao vs Mayweather, a loss to JMM would damage this event totally. When Mayweather combines with another big draw, he has the personality to generate HUGE interest in a fight. A loss would be very detrimental to future superfights he might possibly be in in my opinion.
