The heavyweight division has evolved. Consider that Floyd Patterson weighed around 180, Joe Frazier 190-195, and Muhammad Ali's ideal weight was around 210-215. Many of the heavyweight greats would be cruiser-weights today, and others would be completely dominated by the likes of a Lennox or a Wlad.

Since Lennox Lewis, the heavyweights have been dominated by BIG BIG men. How is a 6'3 210 pound dude supposed to go up against a superbly conditioned 6'7 245 pound athlete?

Maybe it's time for a division from 200-225 or 230 pounds, and everything above that would be super heavyweight.

No offense, but this question is asked on literally a monthly basis...

...and moon after moon, the consensus is that this would be a bad idea. A great little man still beats a good big man. Excess bulk and size has its disadvantages and can be overcome, it just requires skill to exploit them.

The heavyweights suck. But, another division would probably suck more.

heavyweights are too fat and blown up with useless for show muscles these days to begin with, no need to make it even easier for people to get titles :/

Can a great little man beat a great big man?

If the above logic was correct, then why aren't highly skilled under-200lbers challenging the leading heavyweights?

quite a few underweight champions reigned supreme...... the best heavyweights seem to range between 210-255, depending on heighth... but no heavier. Stamina and speed have always been an issue for those who's weight is past 255

If the great little man has that extra dimension or can strategically exploit something about the great big man's size, then yes.

Adamek isn't yet challenging the leading heavyweights (meaning the Klitschkos) and probably wouldn't beat either of the brothers but he's making a nice run for himself and is certainly a top 10 in the division, a few years removed from being a LHW champ.

No this is the best heavyweight era we've experienced in years. A superheavyweight division would dilute the abundant talent that already exists in the heavyweight division.

All you'd be doing is dilluting an already thin pool. Why would anyone want to see that?

I have better idea . . . they should get rid of the heavyweight division all together! the last great heavy was Lennox and since we have had a sad lot! Unfortunately, there is no signs of any great heavies coming anywhere on the planet! it is sad that a couple of B fighters can run the division untouched and the best heavy on the planet (outside of the GOAT SNV) is Fedor in MMA . . . I was so happy when HBO banned the heavies because it could save $ and show better fighters in the lower divisions!

the minimum needs to be raised to maybe 210 or 215, to encourage the 6'1 225, soft around the middle heavyweights to lose the 10 or 15 lbs.
