Depends on what their respective fighters think. Most of the time it comes down to the rapport the fighter has with the trainer. They're both great trainers.

Abel Sanchez trains guys that were already good before he got them.

I'm not sure either is a great trainer. I'm sure that Pacquiao and Golovkin are great boxers. A lot of the most famous trainers right now are just famous for having a good fighter. Guys like Eddie Futch or Ray Arcel who had a dozen great fighters are legitimately great trainers. Nacho is like that. He's the only one I've been sure of since Manny Steward died.

Nacho is a legend. He's been shaping and molding the best of the best to come out of Mexico for, what, 30 plus years now? Incredible.

Both Freddie & Abel are awesome trainers Nut this reminds me of ine of my old buddy Tex Cobbs one liners. "Trainers are a great help but when that bell rings they climb down the steps its your ass alone in the ring" LOL

Forget about Golovkin. Abel's greatest success is Gassiev. His improvement alone in the last 3½ years is the proof in the pudding.

Totally agree,Abel Sanchez is a teacher and I like how he’s created a serious environment up at Big Bear for serious athletes.
Gassiev KO to the body was so very reminiscent of Golovkin at his best and then I realised it’s an Abel Sanchez thing, touch jabs setting up the KO.
Gassievs technique is now so good i5 makes his performance against Lebedev look Amateur ish lol.

Exactly, and even vs. Lebedev he was a couple of years into his tenure with Abel, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Wladimir Klitschko after one year or two with Steward had yet to morph into the KING he was destined to become. After percolating for a while, these once-in-a-lifetime fortuitous bonds of synergistic chemistry and compatible boxing IQ simpatico that forms in these successful relationships begins to prove itself with a replication of consistent results over time (with the same identifiable - and most importantly, new - wrinkles in the fighters' game having a big impact on these results).

They joined forces in late 2014, were still a work in progress (but showing clear signs of heading in the right direction) in 2016 and by last year were polished to a T, so that heading into the Dorticos fight in early 2018 he (that is, Gassiev) was able to put on as perfect a performance within his style as is humanly possible.

Now, what Ovids was pointing out is very true of MANY so-called great trainers of the modern day. Virgil Hunter springs to mind. I call it "Phil Jackson syndrome" (although I think Phil Jackson deserved more of his credit for being a great basketball coach than Virgil Hunter does for being a "great" boxing trainer) - where you just sit back and let the uniquely advantaged superman athletes that were dumped in your lap just do what they do, and collect all the accolades for it.

That doesn't apply whatsoever to Abel, though, IMO - exactly because of the replicated success. Were it only GGG so far that Abel had guided to success, then yeah, there would be that suspicion - but it hasn't been.

Right now in terms of active coaches I'd put him above Freddie* but still below Nacho (if only for lifetime achievement/emeritus status, as Nacho hasn't really groomed anybody to greatness lately; without checking, his only big name pupil now AFAIK is Rey Vargas, plus maybe some Mexican chick who may or may not hold a belt?)

*which means light-years ahead of Hunter.

If you saw the evolution of the Bulls from Doug Collins to their first championship under Jackson, you would not be saying these things.
What you are describing does not fit Phil Jackson at all.
