As much as I don't like Roach, Abel is a rookie compare to what Roach used to be...

I wouldn't count it as witty. I would count it as accurate.

Yeah, he only guided Lupe Aquino to a title like 31 years ago, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Communications problems and worsening of symptoms of parkinson's sadly compromised Roach's ability to get his message across effectively to many in his stable.

What I will say is that even if Roach or even Abel( who has done a remarkable job) were limited to hand gestures only to communicate instructions to their fighters, they'd still be ten times the coach of that glorified gym teacher Virgil Hunter, who likes to pretend is a sage who has mastered psychology.

Once you've had one or two successes, it's always going to be easier as a trainer as you've going to have the top talent come to you regardless.

I personally like to hear stories of gyms/trainers moulding their fighters from near infancy to world level.

    Ingle gym - Naseem Hamed
    Ingle gym - Kell Brook
    Virgil Hunter - Andre Ward

Just three I know off the top of my head.

Being there from your charge taking his first step into the ring to being a world champion.......

What a journey and what a feeling it must be to see that happen.

Whether you like Ward/Hunter or not, if you can't enjoy or at least admire that success on a purely human level, there's something wrong with you.

Some guys are bound to succeed no matter who's coaching them. Ward could have gotten as far as he did with anyone.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. spent the first half of his career with a coach who spent more time smoking crack and talking smack than imparting wisdom. (Uncle Rog is pretty good though)

Some talents excel in spite of, not because of, their coaches.

roach is a offensive guy. if ur offense is ur defense then let roach train you. i personally dont like his method of teaching for longetivity. even tho manny proved me wrong about that, but manny is a special talent.

i think having more then one trainer is a good thing to be versatile. bud crawford has the right idea. spending some time with roach u can learn alot but i think u need to add another trainers knowledge sprinkled in with roaches approached.

roach had khan and manny fighting very similar there for a moment an thats wen khan was at his best.
