Similar levels of unmitigated hype. A number #6 P4P ranking already.

Could it all go wrong for Broner or will he justify the hype and high regard?

Another ****ing idiot who knows nothing about the sport. The only thing that Lacy and Broner have in common is that they are both black. Broner is lightyears better and more skilled than Lacy a blind man could see it. Lacy was nothing more than a slugger with a chissled physique and a catchy nickname who got a lot of hype after koing a bunch of cans. The guy was as limited as you can get. Broner is a skilled guy who can walk people down stand in front of them make them miss counter and can fight on the inside intelligently while picking his shots and going to the body effectively with power, the two couldn't be more different and no comparisons should be made. Broner is the real deal and a G while Lacy was a hypejob.:deal

    Dumbest thread I've ever seen.

Broner has already proven that he's SEVERAL levels above what Lacy was.

Not sold on him yet. The PDL fight still sticks out and DeMarco was doing some good work from the outside in the first round then he went and got stupid and started fighting on the inside.

I think a guy like Vasquez could outbox him from the inside or a tough guy with volume can beat him ala PDL. Then the other thing is how is his chin? Once he felt PDLs power he ran. It could be for a reason.

He is not as limited as Lacy so my guess is no he is not Lacy 2.0

Lacy was a good fighter that catches too much ****, but no two totally different fighters. people are being quick to say Broner is the future p4p king though.

PDL fight has no bearing on how much improved Broner is now. Broner would beat the **** outta PDL today if the rematch was ordered and you know it. He's much better and more complete. People love to bring that up and try to act as if boxers can't get better. Broner was 21, green when he fought PDL and has gotten much better since then. I would pick Broner to stop PDL if they fought today, he would beat him worse than he did Demarco.

That's not the only thing though is it?

Let's forget the revisionist perspectives of Lacy portrayed as the crude slugger who'd only beaten nobodies. We'll politely fail to mention the widespread admiration and confidence expressed in his abilities, and assume that almost all posters belonged to the sensible but tiny minority and dismissed the hype to see behind the impressively chiseled facade.

Hype is what they have in common. Unjustified and reckless hype. Lacy was pushing for a P4P spot, Broner has one. Vanderpol, Reid and Sheika are different but not a outlandishly dissimilar in status to Litzau, Ponce and DeMarco. Looking good against unremarkable fighters before falling short against the elite, a time honoured tradition.

Broner and Lacy, two twenty-somethings with twenty+ fights at the time of their reckoning. Lacy stepped up, propelled by hype, favourite to fell Joe C. Broner soon approaching Ricky Burns, will that be his 'Calzaghe' moment? will it come later? or will the hype be justified and the moment never come?

    Questions. Questions. Questions.

    Ridiculous assertion.

Broner now >>>>> Lacy before the Calzaghe schooling.

He's already #6. Not long before his coronation. Apparently going life and death with Ponce De Leon (or was it Omar Sheika?) is more status-enhancing that it first appeared.

Broner is too strong and too good for Vasquez. He would get killed on the inside with Broner who fights like a savvy vet in there, beaten to the punch and killed to the body. Broner hits hard and would shake him up. No way in hell would Vasquez outbox Broner you're dreaming. Broner is a stylistic nightmare for anyone at LW.:deal

What victories on Broner's record - the only hard evidence we have of his capabilities - propels him beyond that of Jeff Lacy at the same stage of their respective careers?

People talk about Broner like he's got Khan's excellent work-in-progress resume.

Adrien Broner the #6 P4P fighter in the world today. Based on beating DeMarco, Litzau and a life and death struggle with Ponce. And they say Brits hype their fighters

The difference Lacy was a crude slugger while Broner is a skilled counter-puncher who can fight on the inside as well as the outside with solid defense and a high ring IQ. Lacy never showed that ability he was a true hypejob. I don't see how the two even compare? One has legit skills while the other was flawed and limited.
