I think AJ is ready for Charles Martin but he isn't ready for a title. He'll win imo but he has so much to learn which the Whyte fight shown us. Once he hits the title stage, he's there then. He'll have to fight bums like Wilder and learn things he should of learnt coming up rather than being in his ultimate prime and slaughtering everyone. Once you're at the top you should really only fight the top but I know it doesn't work like that! That being said, he isn't really going to get a title fight as sweet as this anytime soon. Wilder & Fury aren't the best of champs we've seen but I'd definitely fancy Martin over them!
May of worded that terribly. I'd rather fight Martin over those two, regardless of what people think of them!
Joshua was more than ready for Martin after his very first amateur fight. Such a joke of a fight for joshua. Please let joshua or haye (if haye has the mindset of only winning or going out on his shield) ruin fury asap. Well, I am dying for anyone if these to fight fury, ortiz, hayw, DW or joshua. All ko career altering / ending ko. I bet there's a few more hw's right now that pummel fury 6' under
Joshua wouldn't EVER vacate, when's the last time any top champ vacated instead of fighting his mando ??? No real Champ has ever vacated, yet this dumb, ignorant and utterly clueless forum talks day in day out about sh!t that's never happened and NEVER would happen
Lennox Lewis vacated the IBF title because he didn't want to fight Byrd. And then Lewis vacated the WBC title because he didn't want to rematch with Vitali Klitschko. Before that, Lewis vacated the WBA title because he didn't want to cancel his fight with Michael Grant in favor of fighting the WBA mandatory John Ruiz. So Lewis vacated ALL THREE belts because he didn't want to fight his mandatories.
You would pick facking Martin over DW and fury??? God damn son, you need your head examined. Even fury would make very easy work of martin. Hell, wlad would most likely still beat that C+/B- fighter in Martin. What exactly are the tremendous skill you see in martin, and which of his fights showed it ??? We have to be talking different Martin's, because no way are you blabbering about the Martin who was rewarded the paper belt be default, in a fight against a very poor man's povetkin. That's a terrible hw title holder right there
^^^Staminakills....you missed his last post!! You need to read BACK ! from the story :- http://www.boxingnews24.com/2016/02/anthony-joshua-vs-charles-martin-possible-april/#more-205226 Hes IBF world champion and hes been calling Anthony Joshua out, Hearn said to skysports.com. It shows the size of Anthony Joshua; youve got a world champion there calling Anthony Joshua out. Hes made some noise saying: Weve offered Anthony Joshua the fight. It doesnt really work like that. You phoned us up and told us you want an extortionate amount of money and then youll fight him so were working the numbers on that fight. So its MONEY (as always) that's the issue here. For me Martin hasn't fought anyone either.....just more journeymen fighters that are similar to AJs oppents. So he's more experienced at dispatching CANS than AJ. His amateur pedigree is less than AJs. I like this fight if they can make it - AJ can win this one! As pointed out by AJ himself in a recent interview on IFL TV (youtube channel) he said once he steps up to world level he can't go back down...and is wanting to not rush his progression to quickly. He's aware this could be damaging to his career if he's overmatched to soon. But in all of this the thing I can't get my head around is the other names or at least one of them that Hearn is looking at is Jennings. Jennings IS world level. Sure he's lost to Wlad on points (but was competitive) and Ortiz just KO'd him...but he's the kind of fighter that is what a world champ (like Wlad) would pick for a defence...or even a mando! Stiverne - the same former world champ, however short his reign was - he's a top ten so world level opponent. In one breath AJ and Hearn are saying they don't want to rush him but on the other the names they are looking at are challengers who are world level opposition. :think
He can win the title no probs, but then the problem is that he is at world level and will have to defend against all comers and take on guys he might not be ready for. Good thing is the mando wont be due for about 9 months so he can get 3 defenses in before then and hopefully use the time to get himself ready for anyone
Agree. And Parker might well be his mando next year. He could take a optional defense first, but the road will be rough as a titlist in the IBF over the next 12-18 months for sure.
This. Martin has an ugly, but effective style. I can see Martin being patient and taking him into the later rounds to get a stoppage. AJ was fading in the Whyte fight, but his power shots saved him. That won't work against Martin.
But seriously, how can we say what will & what won't work in fight against Martin? We don't know s*** about Martin, he is the most unproven champion in decades. He didn't beat anyone from TOP 50 and the title was handled to him on a plate after Glazkov's injury... It sounds crazy, but AJ is more proven than IBF champion AJ took a high risk challenge against Whyte and won. We know that he can be hit, but also that his chin is not that glassy after all... But most of all - Joshua got crazy power, that can make the difference against any fighter in the world. For me he would be a slight favourite against Martin if they were to meet in April, but I highly doubt that this will happen.
