Sorry guys, I don't want to sound like a Povetkin hater, and in fact, had high hopes for him at one point. But, do any of you think that this guy is turning out to be a real bust?

He's 31 years old, and still hasn't compiled 20 fights. As far as I'm concerned, the only real note worthy opponent that he's ever beaten is Eddie Chambers.. That fight was nearly 3 years ago, and he hasn't fought anyone since, and frankly I'm not even sure who would win should they ever rematch. Chris Byrd and Larry Donald were good names, but they were both too far gone to be considered as stellar victories.

Povetkin has backed out of a fight Wladimir Klitschko, and is scheduled to fight on two dates this month. On October 16th, he will face a 14-2 guy that I've never heard of who hasn't won a match since 2007. On October 31st, he is set to fight again, against an unnamed opponent, meaning that he's likely going to be a tomato can.....

Once again, I am not a Povetkin hater, but I think its time to either **** or get off the pot....

I don't dislike Povetkin, but yes, disappointed. I do think the Chambers of the Dimitrenko fight does beat Povetkin handily. His career is being ruined with unprofessional behavior and ...just backward management. Everybody was down on Arreola, a failed contender in the top ten for fighting Quezada...who UD'd the guy Povetkin will be fighting next. Yikes.

Audely Harrison is better than Povetkin.

I agree with this.. I'm still not sure however, if Chambers would beat Povetkin in a rematch, but let's just say that it would be up for grabs.

  5. His résumé seems to make him the honky version of David Haye, possible he has fought better HW's than haye, i'm not sure.

Lately, yes. When he first turned pro, he stepped up the level of competition a lot quicker than most (as he should have with an extensive amateur career behind him). After his first dozen or so fights, I don't think anyone could really call him disappointing.

Since he fought Chambers though, his progress has ground to a halt. I guess Atlas wants him to have three fights in quick succession - this might get him back to a point, early next year, where he's ready to step it up again.

    I am dissappointed.

Who knows, maybe he is doing the right thing. Maybe Teddy can teach him some new tricks, and he will have 5-6 more fights and be ready for Wlad. But is he going to get thre fighting the Loe Nolans of the world?

Disappointing. At his present stage and given his age, he should have taken the Wladimir fight.

Honestly, I think Atlas is so personally invested against the Klitschkos that he can't stand the thought to watching one of his fighters losing to them.

I blame Atlas. I also don't have a great deal of respect for Povetkin's promoters.

No not yet, he needs to move on though, and how can you blame atlas ?, when hes been there only 5 minutes, hes right he was not ready, they moved him to fast before imo, what the hell was the rush, and then he got injured and that took time, and the guy probably got distracted with all the hype, and no doubt his original coach telling him he was the man

    Disappointment.

Povetkin could have fought twice for the Heavyweight Championship and turns this fight down for fighting bums!

He had a late start to his pro career after winning the gold medal at 26, and he looked pretty good for his first few fights, knocking a couple of people out early.

He is probably as good as he's going to be, his skills and conditioning look pretty good, but he lacks speed and ko strength. Its always hard to tell from the amateurs how good a fighter will be, their are countless highly touted guys who could never get elite in the pros. It looks like Solis is taking this path as well.

I think it was right thing to do. If you aren’t ready for champion you aren’t.

Now if he can learn new tricks under Atlas and fight those 5-6 fights inside of a year or two he could have much better change against Klitchko.

His unbeaten record and Olympic gold guarantees him eventual shot for the title anyway, so he should have no rush to challenge champion, before he is ready for it.
