all it shows is he and his team are unprofessional, they lack motivation, or they simply dont want to lose......
you say no rush to fight him, but whats he doing while hes not rushing? anything,? its different if he wants to keep fighting cake fights and just get work in but hes fought 6 times in 4 years......he aint learning and he aint getting better, just getting older.... and if you think for a second hes gonna have 5- 6 fights in a year when he cant even get that many in 3 years youre living in the land of OZ :rofl

I wouldn't have a problem with him backing out of the Klitschko fight, IF he was at least taking on men who were rated, or respectable to some degree, but the simple fact of the matter is that he isn't. For the record, I applauded the impressive start to his career, with his first 15 fights, but since that time, his people have basically been cherry picking and record padding. My guess, is that Atlas is trying to protect him as much as possible, until someone more palatable manages to get their hands a title.

No, I don't think so. He had an injury which kept him off. I can understand pulling out to fight the best heavyweight in the world because he's only got 19 fights. I think he should knock in at least 3-4 fights this year, maybe a couple the beginning of next year (at least one being a top contender) then step in with a Klitschko.

He had a long layoff because of an injury. He's got two fights inside one month. I think it's safe to say he can easily get four more in the course of a year.

I think they are taking easy opponents first, because Atlas is trying to change Povetkins style, to suit better against Wlad.
So they can’t have world beaters against him while he is still trying out his new tricks.

If he would go against current Wlad with his normal style, he would get slaughtered.

In the ring no, outside of the ring, yes. Povetkin is in position for a big fight. He can't sit on his mandatory for ever.

On the way up, Povetkin was moved quickly. Now he's stuck in neutral.

He has been a big disappointment but it's not all his fault. He's been held back by injuries and bad management. I think this is compounded by the awful division. We all just want him to get in the mix so we can see some interesting fights. It's frustrating that all the 'better' contenders are refusing to fight eachother or the champs.

Hopefully now he'll get on a bit of a run and we can see what he's got to give.

    Fully agree.

He seemed like such a promising prospect, then he was promoted, and mishandled in a way that really turned the fans off.

He may still, yet, do something, but I think most are pretty tired of waiting around on him.

It's a major disappointment that he essentially ducked Klitschko. There's really nowhere else for him to go at this point, and even if he was to lose now, it wouldn't really affect his ability to still do well in the long term.

It's disappointing that he has taken a few steps backwards instead of progressing as a fighter. He had promise but judging by the few fights under Atlas I've seen, he has regressed. I think that Atlas is confusing him by trying to teach him things that don't come natural to Povetkin. We'll see what the end result of Atlas' experiment will be, but I don't expect anything special.

yeah well thats what they use as an official statement so he doesnt look like a lazy pug..... you can buy that if you want......

heres an idea, if youre not ready to fight, dont agree to it, dont have a purse bid and dont let them set up a presser in which Wlad had already flown over to be there, money was spent to set up the promotion and then...finally you decide to back out. thats bush league at its finest.....coddled fighter.....89s and 90s you had people that would fight with an arm cut off for a shot....hell buster douglas lost his mom 6 days before the fight.....and he didnt pull out of it....it was an honor back then....now they dont fight anyone in top 10 and sit around and wait for a phone call

What's going on with these recent Olympic Gold Medalists? Povetkin, Harrison, and the Italian guy (became a cop in Italy) are either not fighting enough, have losses, or not fighting in the pros at all.

These guys are supposed to be the future of boxing.

You know that's an interesting thought. You look at a lot of Russian fighters at the Olympics, they'll win a gold medal, then retire from boxing and are never heard from again. A good example is Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov, won a silver in 2000 and a gold in 2004, and then, that's it, didn't go pro, never heard from again. I don't understand it. To win a gold medal at the olympics, and especially to consistently be at the top of the amateur world takes unique god given talent, years of hard work and dedication, as well as a little bit of luck. It literally has to be your full time job. Then, once you've reached that high level, put that much work in, have a gold medal in your hands, why would anyone retire without at least making a little cash off of it. I mean, even if you have no ambitions of going down in history as a great pro fighter, at least sign with some European promoter and make thousands fighting bums for a while, milking that gold medal. To me, it sure beats going to college and getting a degree to work a thankless job and make much much less.
