I don't really blame Povetkin for not taking the fight with Wlad, he isn't ready. He should, however, be fighting much better competition than he is right now to prepare himself for a title shot.

As of now, he does feel like a bit of a disappointment, but he's not on the level of guys like Audley Harrison yet.

Good point and I agree with you. He beat both N'Jikam and Golovkin in the 2004 Olympics, and they are now viewed highly as pros. I don't know why exactly he didn't become pro, but I hope it's a good reason. He missed a great opportunity.

I think the run of wins over Byrd, Chambers, Sykes, and Estrada may have created some unrealistic expectations. I really expected him to keep right on rolling, but he hasn't, and that is disappointing. On the other hand, he only has 19 fights, and he looks like a pretty fresh 31, so we'll have to see what he is doing this time next year.

When you're an olympic gold medalist there's a certain hype around you, and he did look quite good in the first couple of fights.. beating good opposition. But the last 2 years he's done nothing but giving the fans the finger.. so yeah.. I believe he's a disapointment.

Right, or at least a chance to make some cash off of his skills. I mean, going from the spotlight of an Olympic podium to a classroom or a Russian McDonalds seems like such a depressing turn of events.

He was not only Olympic champion, but he was also dominating the amateur superheavyweight scene for years, so yes, he is a disappointment.

He´s got some talent. Maybe he´s not ready for Wlad yet but imho he needs to take bigger risks and needs to step up to some better fighters..

I think after such a promising start he has pretty much gone backwards. I don't discount his skill or ability but I'm not quite sure what happend to the guy.

It's disapointing the way he refuses to fight for the world heavyweight title.

I had high hopes for Povetkin as a dominate amateur and Olympic champion. He started of very well. He fought guys in bout 5-15 that others would have fought as bout 15-25. Soon I saw the lack of power (a finishing punch ) at same to technique (for example he doesn't know what to do if he drives his opponent into a corner) and defensive (he eats too much rubber). He had never fought a opponent with a losing reocrd but he stayed too long at the opponents that where good once but weren't a serious match at the moment he fought them (Mahone, Byrd).
I think Povetkin ha some years left but misses the skills to become a champion. Although he could win against any other fighter than the Klits and Haye. He should start doing that by fighting a guy like McCline or Holyfield next, after that Arreola, Harrison or Tua and finally fight Valuev, Chagaev or Solis. After that he should be ready to try and take Wlad out. This all could be done in one year and a half.
But I doubt him doing that...

You forgot to mention that Povetkin is 30 or 31 years old. At this age, many heavyweight champions retired. He is still considered too "green". When will he step up to the plate? Never: he's afraid.

big time disappointment he starts his career with tough test like donald byrd friday chambers

then he gets contention and gets injured no biggie he is healing from an injury and takes tune ups i get it he fights softies to get back into form before facing klit

then he keeps taking the softies and doesnt challenge and then doesnt up the comp

he went from a tough early career to estrada and nolan and the guy iggy blew out in msg

i am ok with him not wanting to face wlad

    wlad ruins careers
its cowardly but hes picking his moment waiting for haye to stumble or lose or even retire like he promises in a year

Vitali isnt gonna be around much longer

he will wait for an opening and fight for another belt

as cowardly as it sounds its the smartest and safest movve
then laterhe will challenge wlad in a unification lose but get a giant pay check and be able to say he was a champion

I have never been too impressed with him to be honest, i think any of the champs take him out before 6.

i dont think he could learn too much more either hes ticking on now and its hard to teach an old dog new tricks....

He is a big let down. The guy hardly ever fights and yet still gets a title shot.He then pulls out and goes back to not fighting.I dont think he will ever fight for a title.
