Great post! It would've benefited Kell to fight a decent opponent before getting this title shot.. still should be an interesting fight but I'm leaning towards DA, tbh.
More or less how I see it. I think the volume and angles Alexander presents whilst keeping the fight at range will be difficult for Kell to cope with. He does seem to be a bit one paced for me and hasn't had a fight where someone presents him specific problems. We've all now seen the true level of Jones at the weekend and as I'd said before, he was only able to trouble Brook once the nose was bashed in and he was hanging on. Brook was dealing effortlessly with him early on, as he's tended to do with all his selected opponents. This a completely different situation, and one I respect him for taking on. Alexander in the USA is a tough fight for him, however ordinary Devon has appeared at times in the past. Kell's jab is the weapon for him and allows him to dictate and whereas he clearly outshines Alexander in this area, Devon's speed of combinations and variety of the straight left will be too difficult for Brook to counter off IMO.
True, you've been bitching about Brook since long before the Jones fight Based on what? I'm guessing its the Jones fight where he struggled under pressure after gassing & having his nose broke & still won. I thought Id seen every Brook fight since McIntrye, I must have missed the one where he struggled big time. Brook looked fantastic & in much better shape than anything he'd achieved previously. He looked strong, sharp & physically bigger than ever before. Question marks do remain over his stamina though. This is true but of all Alexander's opponents perhaps Kotelnik is the most similar stylistically to Brook. One can see how Alexander struggled with a basic but fundamentally sound fighter & wonder how he will cope with a superior version in Brook. How many Ingle fighters have you seen Laz? Brook is perhaps the most conventional of all the current crop. Whilst his left hand is often low thats a trait he shares with many other fighters. :blood Alexander does have a decent chin & I'd be very surprised if Kell stops him but boxing is a funny old game. I'd be equally surprised if Alexander is able to absorb the sort of punishment Jones did without becoming disheartened. Everyone has to step up sometime or another. Its a bit sad you'll be celebrating if a British fighter loses all because he said some things about Khan that got you all upset.
Bitching? No, just like any reasonable person, I'm looking at his opposition. I've never 'bitched' about him at all. Based on the fact that he's been able to control his opposition's pace. He's been able to dictate that, and against Jones, he could not. Against Alexander, I don't expect him to be able to either. Aesthetics mean nothing as to what his conditioning is like, though. Again, it's something that is still in the clouds until his next bout. Kotelnik is stylistically similar to Brook? I don't see that at all. Their defences alone are reliant on two completely different things - Kotelnik with his turtle shell D, primarily using his gloves to cover up and Kell who is more reliant on his reflex based defence. Brook isn't that fundamentally sound, though. Well I have seen Johnny Nelson, Ryan Rhodes, Brook and a few others to boot. Alexander's angle's and pivoting is a huge problem for Kell, if you watch his fights. He can get out of a clinch and at the same time have the ability to hit you and not just with one shot. I noticed with Brook in the Carson fight and even the Hatton or N'dou fight that he just stares at the opponent in a clinch and gets hit. If Alexander is able to absorb the punishment Jones did? Mate, they are two completely different people, two completely different styles, and for all the 'punishment' Brook put on Carson, he didn't faze him. Like I had said in my other post, Devon's been in with the hardest punchers in the game and he has not been fazed. I don't expect Brook to land as much as someone like Matthysse did anyway, and even if he did, I don't think Brook is a monstrous enough of a puncher to have so much of an effect on Alexander Who said anything about me celebrating about a Brit fighter losing? FYI, any fighter which I dislike and ends up losing, I actually feel sympathy for and end up supporting because I have tons of respect for these guys, unlike the many pricks on the board who actually wish to see some boxers get knocked out continuously. God knows what they get out of it. Also, good on Brook if he wins. He proves my doubts wrong and I'd look forward to him and Amir get it on. His comments on Khan were nothing to do with it, more so what people were saying about Brook and Khan if anything.
brook should beat alexander, quite easy as well. im not going to brake the fight down by writing a essay,he will beat him by punching him . (im not all that keen on brook either)
I agree, and Brook's jab is what only makes me tip the pot now and then because if his victory is to come in any way, it's through that.
I suppose Devon and his team think specialK is just a brit hypejob thats never been in with anyone decent. They may be proved right.I hope not
I wish I could say "Brook won't win" but he's British and I support him because of this. I just really hope that Brook puts in the serious hard training and gives Alexander a hell of a fight. I am getting a bit fed up of the British contenders at the LW, LWW and WW divisions being taken for a joke by other countries, especially the Americans. I just hope that Brook is the one who can do Britain (and sheffield) proud in the WW division. It's been a long time since we've had a contender in the WW division with Brook's abilities.
Devon is quicker & sharper than Brook. Kell hasn't fought anyone remotely as good as Alexander. What worries me most is how awkward Devon is, he is a real spoiler & I can see Brook getting very frustrated during the fight. Kell is going to need to work on the inside when Alexander ties him up. I'm not really sure that's Brooks game. He's gonna have to show us allot we haven't seen. I like Brook & I hope he is the real deal, but picking him to win is like taking a blind leap faith.
Kell hasbt even fought someone as good as witter. A fighter that was a stepping stone for a young alexander.
Good ol' Widdy. No nonsense & straight to the point. You do ***** a lot about "thpecial K" as you like to call him, whether you recognise it or not. Offensively they are similar imo, both prefer straight shots over hooks & like to work behind a jab. Kotelnik is a little more straight forward & Brook a bit more varied but they both like to box. We'll have do disagree there, Brook does the basics well & has good punching form & technique. I'm not too keen on his left hook as its more of an arm punch than a fully torqued blow. Brook is not a typical hands-down, switch hitting Ingle fighter. Brook biggest problem will be Alexander's raw speed from range, although I agree his inside game needs tightening up. Thanks for pointing that out Captain Obvious. As for not being fazed Devon straight up quit vs Bradley when the going got tough & was outboxed by Kotelnik. If Brook keeps landing sharp counters is Devon going to grow in intensity like Jones did or go into his shell? After reading your previous posts on Brook its a reasonable assumption to make, especially as you get so upset with anyone who thinks Brook will knock out Khan.
I call him that because I find it funny, and I think his voice is beyond hilarious. I take the **** out of Khan's gay accent loads of times, too. Captain obvious? You made the comparison between Jones and Alexander. If Alexander keeps landing on Brook, will Brook just resort to cruising and not making an adjustment? Sharp counters aren't enough. Go watch Alexander's fights with Matthysse and Maidana, because I really doubt you have. Upset? The internet is a funny thing, it's easy to come across in a way that may look like the person is upset or angry, but I have probably only been pissed off at someone ONLINE a few times, and trust me, it's never over someone saying Brook will KO Khan! ****, if anything annoys me online, it's just ignorance from people.
No, I said that I would be surprised if Alexander could be as tough & combatitive as Jones was if Brook was regularly landing good shots. N'dou & Hatton are both very tough & neither of them were able to handle Kell's power without significantly shutting down offensively. Ive seen all of Alexander's major fights, perhaps you only caught the highlights. Not so long ago you'd never even heard of Nigel Benn :-(
It wouldn't surprise me if he has overlooked Brook, I think he done the same with Kotelnik and Matthysse in the past, granted he is not an elite fighter but the way he blows hot and cold, suggests he might be a bit of an arrogant *****.
