Who exactly was he protected from? The murderous row of opponents he faced disproves this statement. He did not fight Lucien Bute and left him for Froch to handle.
8 of his 12 championship bouts were in Oakland. He was beaten by Kovalev in the first fight and got away with multiple low blows in the second. If the first fight had been in Moscow Kovalev would have won going away. Instead, you have all 3 American judges giving Ward a 114-113 gift.
He was weight cutting BIG to make 168, and GGG was easily making Middle at the time..Very naughty of Andre really
not sure he would have won, i had Krusher a whisker ahead but its superfluous to claim it would be a win in russia for sure.
I'm a big Ward fan, he's a definite HOFer, he established himself as the top super middle and light heavy, he may have been the second best p4p for a good eight years, he's a really good person and asset for boxing. But I think his career overall is a notch below ATG and he could have been greater. Only had 32 wins. His meaningful wins are only Kessler, Abraham, Froch, Dawson, and Kovalev. RJJ's opposition was criticised, but his resume was better than Ward's. That he doesn't have more top wins on his ledger isn't all his fault, he didn't avoid any obvious challenges, and most of the past greats just fought in deeper eras. I But I still think Ward could've done more. If he wanted to establish a great legacy he shouldn't have retired when he did. He cleaned out super middle but didn't clean out light heavy. If he defended against even three of the really good current top light heavies that would make his resume stand out so much more. Beating Bellew as was rumoured would be impressive, and wow can you imagine if he beat Usyk? The quality was there suggesting he could possibly be a top 20 ATG, but as is the quantity's lacking and he's not there, and likely well outside the top 50.
Because most American fight fans would rather suck the dick of anything foreign rather than cheer for their own for various reasons. It's pathetic and sickening.
He was on his. He hurt Kovalev to the head and yes the final 2 shots were low blows where there were borderline shots just the final 2 were clearly low. that was still a good one the ref just should have not stopped it there.. Ward was on top of the world and it seemed he could become great but he retired. But, how would he have matches vs the other top guys? I honestly think Beterbiev would have ate Ward alive.
So Golovkin ducked a weight drained , inactive and surgery ridden Ward? ok. btw , it was Sanchez who kept saying Ward couldn't make the weight. Only when Ward reached 175 did he say he could no longer make 168. In 2015 GGG and his trainer did not want to the name Andre Ward anywhere near them. yes indeed.
Irrelevant alot of boxers fight in their hometown was Calzaghe protected to since he fought many times in his hometown? Of course not. BTW the fight would never be in Moscow because there was no money for the fight there.
he's an all time great at 168 the division everyone forgot about. he should have fought Stevenson after he beat Kovalev.
