And the people affiliated therein probably don't hold Ward in high esteem all things considered. But IB's point is still valid, if not overdue. The excuse, valid or not, wears thin. Ward is still writing the book and how to blow incredible momentum, years in progress now.
well those people and andre ward need to put that bs aside and work together.they are only hurting themselves here.
He's put himself in a difficult position. He's been out for a long time and when he does come back I don't expect him to face anyone of note, will probably be another Rodriguez level opponent to get rid of the ring rust. He's lost all the momentum from the Super 6 and the Dawson win. While those around him have excelled. He is clearly a difficult guy to negotiate with often wanting concessions such as where the fight is fought to catch weights. He believes he's a super star without the drawing power to match. He'll find it difficult to get the big fights unless he is willing to either take risks or take less money. Is he done? No I don't think so, he still has time to carve out a better legacy. Question is will he be willing to do what is required to do so. That I'm not so sure about, he could very well just keep being self destructive and end up being frozen out from any big fights that matter.
This. Honestly the way I interpreted Ward's and his camp's comments over the past 2 years is... basically he is expecting PPV fights, or close to PPV level paydays. His p4p ranking seems to have went to his head a bit. Irony of course being, had he just kept fighting regularly and reminding the US audience how good he is (he IS a US Gold Medalist after all, boring or not with the right promotion he could have gotten more attention from the sports world) he might actually have been close to a PPV fight or even getting one about now. Had Ward kept fighting, and actually done his part to build the fight (with ring activity, real call-outs are done after winning a fight not on Twitter) I could have seen GGG-Ward being a PPV draw by now/early 2015 and actually selling Canelo level numbers especially priced at a reasonable $40 or so. Yeah not Floyd money, but still low 7 figure purse for both guys and big sporting relevance. Takes two to tango though, especially when you are trying to build a fight on the merits of the fight and not just piggybacking on ethnic fanbase or star momentum.
It's hard on anyone looking back knowing theyve wasted the prime years of their lives. Especially so if you're one of the most talented of your generation
had ward kept his momentum by fighting regularly, there's no doubt against whom froch would be contesting his ppv vegas swansong.
where is it getting stricter you clown fighters can still choose to not get tested just like wlad who always ducks ped testing.
If Ward want's to fight someone relevant, he will not be able to call the shots, being that he can't sell out his own living room, thus giving the opponent the right to demand drug testing.
Yeah he is done, missed out on the opportunity to cash in after the Super Six. He couldn't sell out a small gym hall. Nobody is interested.
