Yes but Dan was very hands-on in running things and not a figurehead like, say, Oscar before the recent sack - or, pardon, mutually agreed upon departure -of Schaeffer. Imagine the sudden passing of Arum, and try convincing yourself his grudges in the sport would be carried on as business-adverse legacies by those ffilling the void at Top Rank. Besides, even though it was contentious enough to manifest as two lawsuits, the beef was never between Andre Ward and Dan Goossen personally. It was a professional/financial dispute pitting Goossen-Tutor against Ward's co-promoter Antonio Leonard, with SOG taking Leonard's side. There was no ppersonal enmity, so even if the successors at GTP want to stubbornly carry on Dan's refusal to settle with Leonard it doesn't make any sense - neither business sense nor common sense - to vilify Ward. In fact, in light of his respectful comments upon Dan's passing and their hatchet burying tone, it would make both he and the parties now in control of GTP look very bad if they were to not repair that relationship, in a hurry .
I think it will be repaired plus ward has no choice he must know he cant get out of his contract with goossen tutor he is signed until 2016.
Dirrel is being moved well enough. He's fighting for the 3rd time since August, and against a top 30 SMW in Edwards, who's only lost vs top guys in Korobov, Stevenson, and to a lesser extent Johnson.:think
Ward probably can't make 168 anymore, so he is waiting for someone worthy enough to fight at 175. Right now, Kovalev or Stevenson don't bring anything legacy wise.
If he feels Kovalev or Stevenson don't do anything for his legacy , then he might as well retire for good then . Hes in desperate need of a megafight with one of these 2 men .
That was never the issue, he just wants Leonard to get paid for the Rodriguez fight I think and has been essentially "on strike" over that issue. The people handling things at Goossen Tutor would be wise to just settle and move on with things, as I would imagine that was just a bit of stubbornness on Dan's part not wanting to cut Leonard a piece for what he saw as his own promotional asset on principle. It sounds like the whole thing just started out with bad communication between all parties. It doesn't seem like the sort of thing really needing to drag out now that a main player in the drama is gone.
Ward only wants to fight big money superstars with drawing power that are willing to work in California. This means he's got to be salivating over a potential Mickey Rourke showdown.
do you seriously believe that after 2 poor opponents in 3 years, major surgery and a year + lay-off the reason ward ain't jumping in with kovalev is his legacy? ward's fans must be among the most gullible people going.
honestly if kovalev isn't a legacy fight then the only possible legacy fight fans of Ward thinks there is ,is if he jumps to heavyweight and beats wlad
well I read he wanted out to join top rank.ward also had other issues like saying goossen violated the ali act so who knows what was going on behind the scenes.
I lol @ the winky days.it means pricing yourself out of big fights.thinking you are a big superstar when your not.the winky wright school of boxing business.james kirkland is also taking some classes there.:deal
I don't see why anyone would fight him. It would be a huge risk to fight him, very little gain at this point. He's been far too inactive and has too many demands (Oaaaaaakland). I respect the dude especially since I've been following him since Olympic amateur days but he is wasting his career.
