Is Andre Ward good enough to have really tested a peak Roy Jones?

Ward is an elite technician in the boxing world of today, head and shoulders above the rest of his division.

How would he have fared against (for my money) the best Roy Jones we ever saw, the supermiddleweight version of 1994-96?

Is Ward all-round good enough to test the Superman Jones over 12 rounds, or does he "get Toneyed"?

Maybe some trouble but not enough to win him the fight honestly

I doubt it. Despite how good Ward is, he really hasn't been tested against a speedy boxer.

Had Ward fought one of the Dirrell brothers, we can speculate how well he would do against a prime RJJ.

I think Ward is a terrific boxer but I can't really see anything of his fights that would make me think he tests RJJ, particularly. But, it's still so early for him. Dawson will possibly help me speculate about it a little better. Not that he's anything on RJJ, but to me Ward's best wins are against a basics expert in Kessler and a slow, awkward stylistic oddball in Froch. Dawson would at least be a little more of an indication.

against a roided up Roy, I give Ward little to no chance. Rjj speed and power would be too much.

Would destroy Calzaghe, but I don't think anybody beats prime Roy

Ward spends all of his time in Oakland, even has most of his fights there, so he probably knows the city inside and out, which means he would make a great taxi driver, like most of Prime RJJ's opponents.

Wrong. Allan Green (who is one helluva fighter) is Wards best win. :dance

at 168? Prime Jones is a very very tough customer to tangle with - Ward has never faced that speed, power, and unorthodoxy because its sui generis to prime Jones.

No, in my opinion, and maybe not even a prime James Toney at 168.

He's good enough to win a couple of rounds on the way to a dull 12 loss only notable for the work done by Roy.

I think Ward would always look "in the fight" but Roy's speed and combinations win the majority of the rounds. Something like 117-111.

He's going to get blown out once Roy sees he has nothing to fear.

Ward's pillows would do nothing to Jones. Jones would walk him down and stop him.

If Montell Griffin could 'get close' to a peak Jones what makes you think Ward wouldn't be able to?
