That's possible but also very speculative. What we have is a tremendous fight in which IMO both fighters showed a high skill level. In fact I don't see a vast difference to 2007 Kessler but that could be just me. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to see Ward - Bute in Oakland either and yes, I did notice what happened in Ward's latest fights but the OP asks for our current opinion on whether we consider Ward a P4P and and there's no denying that the hometown advantage was insignificant so far as Ward was the clearly superior boxer against Miranda, Kessler, Green and Bika (Bika not so much and yes, the scorecards were criminally off but the right man won). There's no need for further hometown fights for Ward but as of now you can't penalize him for fighting at home since he would have one any of these fights in a neutral venue as well.
Froch's top 5 wins shits over Wards. Ward has got Bika, Green, Kessler and Pudwill. Not Tocker Pudwill, an even shitter pudwill than the one on Calzaghe's resume, Shelby Pudwill. Froch got Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Abraham, and his fight with Kessler was 50-50. Anyway explain this:- Mosley>Mayorga>Forrest>Mosley :huh > Margarito > Cotto> Mosley :huh> Margarito > Cotto > Quintana > Paul Williams > Winky Wright > Mosley :huh > Mayorga > Forrest > Mora = Mosley :huh
I have answered various parts to this in earlier quotes, but where I will pick up is you saying Ward would win these fights on neutral ground. Not necessarily as some fighters cant perform well away from home and whos to say Ward would be allowed to illegally hold and hit away from Joakland or wouldnt get DQ for headbutting. Ward was allowed to fight illegally at times and the ref broke the fight it seemed when Bika was able to rough him up, whilst letting it continue when it was the other way. So no, we dont know yet if Ward would win in other fighters home towns, if not allowed to cheat
Froch doesn't have a win nearly as good as Kessler and got beat by Kessler, no his fight with Kessler wasn't 50-50 it was 65-35 in favour of the Dane. Fighters are ranked on losses aswell as wins and performances. Spin it anyway you want but Froch got schooled in 2 of his last 3 bouts. HE was getting schooled in the fight prior to that against a shot Taylor. Good wins against Pascall and Abraham but Abraham was coming off a loss. Bottom line Froch doesn't have a top level win, Ward does. Ward has never lost or been outboxed Froch has
I have him in my Top 10. He's borderline Top 5, because he beat arguably the best SMW in M Kessler at the time and dominated the fight. He beat Top 10 contenders in Bika and Green in dominate fashion as well. I have him like 7.
Why you basing rankings on one win? If that is the case Buster Douglas KO10 Tyson, no win can match that in the history of the game. Wards best wins VS Froch's best wins 1. Kessler > Pascal 2. Bika < Abraham 3. Green < Taylor 4. Miranda < Dirrell 5. Pudwill < Reid Even if you add Froch's loss into the equation:- Froch's resume (27(20) - 1 - 0) > Andre Ward resume. (23(13) - 0 - 0) At the moment, even Wards grandma will agree Froch has a better resume. Anyway man explain this:- Mosley>Mayorga>Forrest>Mosley :huh > Margarito > Cotto> Mosley :huh> Margarito > Cotto > Quintana > Paul Williams > Winky Wright > Mosley :huh > Mayorga > Forrest > Mora = Mosley :huh P.S: Froch UD Pascal is "nearly" as good as Ward TD Kessler, no doubt.
Well, I cannot disprove that and I do see your points, although I don't necessarily agree with all of them they're reasonable. I could argue that Ward would fight more cautiously (in terms of illegal activities in the ring) knowing he's under observation of a truly neutral ref but no need to go there. It's like, you know, your opinion and I accept it.
Interesting that about 25% say YES Ward is top 10 P4P material! thanks for the contributions, good discussion when it doesn't resort to cheap digs cheers Wig
