Holyfield's more or less a non-factor nowadays, so people don't care. They just want Holyfield to retire.

I reckon Andre Dirrell is one of the nicest guys in boxing personally.

Me too. I like him and am a fan of Hopkins so for people to make it seem like Ward is worse than them is ridiculous.

Nobody is worse than Hopkins, with headbutts, but most of the time they are out of desperation. With Ward against Kessler, it had nothing to do with the fact he was losing the fight.

Hopkins just does it for the hell of it, not out of desperation. When was the last time you saw Hopkins really losing badly and then headbutting his opponent?

He used it fairly early against Wright IIRC. He was using his head against Joppy and he kicked the hell out of him. Hopkins is just used to being dirty. He'll be ahead 9-1 on the cards and still feel the need to hit the guy low because the ref is on the other side and can't see it.

Hopkins just likes to fight dirty. He learned while fighting as a criminal it's just part of his style.

It's apparently become the consensus opinion among a significant number of posters here that Ward landed as many if not more intentional headbutts than clean punches in that fight.

I've met Ward several times in person. He is much more personable, humble and genuinely kind than most will ever know. He does not place himself above others. In the past, I have been fortunate enough to sit in on a few private sparring sessions. My main objective was to observe and to stay out of the guy's way. Regardless, he has always initiated conversation, handshakes, introduction, etc. On top of that, his work ethic, discipline and demeanor qualifies him as a model citizen. I could go on and on. The badmouthing and disrespect that I have witnessed from people who call themselves boxing fans is a damn shame.

No doubt. He's a bully and a straight up ******* in the ring, even in sparring. He flips the switch. Very businesslike. Then again, if you don't like that side of him, too bad. As a fighter, you assume the risk and toss friendships aside once you decide to lace 'em up with Ward. As a fan, I wouldn't have it any other way.

No Kessler could have resorted to illegal tactics but instead he waited for the ref to do his job. The American ref obviously didn't. Kessler should have pulled a Tyson or AA on Ward but he fought clean instead. AA choses to fight fire with fire and you complain.

I don't believe that AA meant to be dirty but had he i would have no problem with it at all. If the ref won't enforce the rules then no reason to put yourself on an uneven playing field by being clean when your opponent isn't.

The ref admitted to seeing 5 headbutts himself. Nice try though. I counted 8 butts when i re-watched it.

Boxers do have a level of humility uncommon to a lot of pro athletes. I guess there is a level of confidence that comes with the skill set, that gives you an attitude that you really don't have anything to prove to anyone.

I believe it is because boxers know what they are capable of and the last thing on their mind is the need to prove something to the average Joe. Many boxers have been in little or no street fights. Boxing is very humbling and disciplinary. It hogs up the energy needed to go out and start trouble.
