P4P is a very mythical thing that is just based on an opinion and often hype. I remember how some years back you had some names in the P4P ratings yet you had D Haye who then had won WBC WBA WBO Ring CW titles and the WBA HW title all in around 24 fights, most won away and not mentioned. I wouldnt have Ward in the top 10 yet. There are more accomplished and deserving fighters at this time, but that doesnt mean Ward wont get there. At present the SMW division isnt very strong. Froch is 36 already and had lost to a faded version of Kessler coming off a loss, and Ward/Froch was a close affair in my opinion. There are not really any top SMWs, but some may come through for Ward, like Groves, DeGale etc. Oosthuizen has been found out a bit but is top 10 in the current SMW era, Bika was unable to win a world title when prime but now in this era can. Abraham and Steiglitz are top 5 in this era but Steiglitz wasnt able to do as well in the previous era losing to Berrio and Andrade. Ward hasnt yet beaten any top undefeated fighters or beaten a top prime fighter
you do make me laugh...like I said, all roads lead to Britain, and SMW is your pet 'lets boost calzaghe rep points' - that's the only reason you wont rank ward one thing we can agree on is that SMW isn't strong at the moment, but downplaying ward's wins over Kessler is just bailey doing what bailey does best
yeah, he beaten The Mummy, Imhotep Dawson. He's now ready to fight Pavlik if he finds the pub where he lies drunk.
Ward is number one. Mayweather is over-rated. He never cleaned out a division the way Ward did at 168.
Rigo in front of Wlad is even worse than putting Ward ahead of him. Wlad's championship career is literally twice Guillermo's entire pro career.
I would certainly be keen to put Rigondeaux up there....I might even get too crazy and put him above Mayweather and Marquez. But then again he hasn't had too many top of the line opponents.
I weigh my P4P lists heavily towards overall ring dominance, H2H ability, and accomplishment. It wouldn't take 20 more good wins for me to rank Rigo over Wlad, but one great win isn't going to undo years of dominance. Besides, skillsets don't necessarily translate across weight classes- a bantamweight should be fighting differently and be able to do more things than a heavyweight.
p4p rankings in my eyes means , who is the best fighter in the world regardless of weight. the whole if they were the same size thing is just stupid.
Funny you should mention Haye, as I used to take some heat for ranking him leading in to the Wlad fight. Bottom line is, of all the logical 2 weight beltholding combinations, pulling it off at Cruiserweight and Heavyweight is the hardest to accomplish. Haye was the first one to do it since Evander. I don't want to say winning titles in multiple classes is is easy (it's not), but it's far easier to be a multi-weight titlist in any other division than it is to unify the Cruiserweight belts and pick up a strap at heavyweight.
