No, I am going by the definition of athleticism.

I guess you can't read because I said p4p. That's the only way to compare two guys of different weights. If we are going straight up then Marciano beats him in speed but loses in strength. He's still the better athlete.

Ok dude. I'm not going to argue in circles about this, but boxers and athletes in general didn't live as clean and weren't as health conscious as today.

Argue in circles? This is your second reply, you're ducking.

To argue in circles you have to arrive back at the same point. The first point was whether or not Marciano was ahead of his time in nutrition. The second is whether or not guys drank, smoked, or partied all the time in his era. Those two things are unrelated.

Actually they lived healthier and cleaner than fighters today.

Just saying I can see where this is heading, anyways. I don't care enough to argue this in length. Marciano was clearly fanatical about fitness, he wrote a book about body building - had stamina and work ethic that was largely unrivaled at the time. If he wasn't ahead of his time, he was certainly among the most disciplined of his own. As far as guys back then living cleaner than today? How can you say that with all of the developments made in nutrition and a wider awareness to the dangers of smoking etc? There were athletes in ALL sports who did things to their bodies that they wouldn't be able to get away with today.

Fighters back then weren't smokers, where are you getting your information? Sure, a large part of America were smokers but people knew it was bad for you lol.

Go on instagram and you will see plenty of boxers partying at the club (Broner).

How dare you mention Rocky's name besides this one dimensional robotic weight lifter!

Marciano would have taken pleasure making Joshua bleed and I'd have enjoyed watching him enjoy it.

I was thinking about this yesterday, because big men surely existed 60 years ago. I mean Fury probably has the same genes as his grandfather, and it cant all be Chernobyl?

Where all the 1950 giants disregarded as boxers because of coordination, did they just have to work in the fields or what is it?

I'm not expecting you to give an explanation, just raising the question.

Joshua is a product of advances in nutrition, suppliants and fitness. But yeah, generally I think taller fighters back then were usually a bit more goofy and uncoordinated, and thus not taken as seriously.

This. It's apples and oranges. Marciano trained for endurance, since they still had 15 round fights. Marciano could keep bobbing and weaving all fight if he needed to.

Joshua on the other hand is a powerhouse that has thudding power. Everyone that he fights tends to get gun shy when he lands a decent shot. But, a trade off for his strength and muscle is his stamina is poor. He also has a hard time keeping his hands up most of the fight, since his arms must get heavy with all that muscle. Joshua's upper body movement also seems very stiff. He'll need that against a guy like Fury, who will do everything from clinching to pulling on his arms to gas him out. Wilder has very high activity, which none of Joshua's opponents have. Ortiz is extremely accurate and would make Joshua pay for keeping his hands low.

For me athleticism has more to do with co ordination than muscles. If you are unsure, ask yourself who would be a better baseball / basketball / football etc player. Seen plenty of muscular dudes that were complete quads and would find it challenging to dribble a ball.
