Is Anthony Joshua more Frank Bruno than Lennox Lewis?

Good post. Agree with that. My post was really aimed at the thinking that he would power through everyone which a lot of people thought. Cant blame them really up till saturday hadnt been in with anyone near his level probably rightfully so only had 14 fights at that point.

But i genuinely think joshua has too many flaws. If it wasnt for his power he d be struggling. Needs to forget about his power and learn how to box. Learn his trade. Forget about knocking people out or getting fairweather fans onside.

I can't get my head around why Joshua doesn't throw the jab, he seems very set on connecting with that hook, which of course is fine when you have his power and you're fighting smaller guys.

Credit to Whyte he was brave and did cause AJ problems, I think Eddie Hearn has realised the idea to fast track Joshua to a world title is a bad one. Hense why they're now talking about facing Whyte again in a years time, if that's the case Eddie has clearly changed his mind on getting Joshua a world title fight next year.

 

Whyte fights gonna end up a blessing in disguise for joshua. Thats what its all about tho. Find out where your at and then make the necessary changes. The lack of jabs one of the biggest problems for me. You ll struggle to get to the top without a strong commanding jab. Someone that height should really be using it to his advantage. I take my hat off to guys like joshua tho always gonna be in entertaining fights. But theres got to be a trade off at some point if you want to get to the top

 

Any young fighter that loses a round and get's hit flush a few times in a seven round fight against a good opponent may as well hang up the gloves and publicly admit he's a glass chinned fraud who tried to fool us all.

There's no coming back from a win like that AJ. You've been exposed !!

 

AJ is 'work in progress' so any long term conclusions right now are pretty meaningless. Clearly he needs to improve but after only 15 pro fights and a brief (albeit successful) amateur career, you'd expect nothing else.

 

One thing I will say is that when you see how many punches Whyte took and you see how easily so many of Joshua's opponents went down its clear that many were just looking for first chance to get out of the fight

And I'm a Joshua fan and I do think he has power

But a heavyweight who wants to win and has desire can take punches even of Joshua level if they really want to - for far longer than some of his opponents to date

Not sure i agree mate. The guys joshuas been fighting previously were part time fighters at best either that or older finished fighters. Dillan the first thats actually got a decent set up behind him. Training properly or whats necessary for that level. These guys are basically going in there with pea shooters against a shotgun.

 

Why you comparing Joshua to a Canadian fighter who is the product of the Canadian boxing system?

 

If you want a Canadian heavy Joshua is reminiscent of in style it's defo Donovan Ruddock. Ruddock with Bruno's muscles.
