I feel he`s underrated, he has good boxing skills and speed, his combo`s are short and explosive his counters are fast, his movement is effective when skipping back away from shots, his jab is good, his defense and guard are good, he always has his right hand held high protecting him from the hook, but a lot of fans seem to compare him to Frank Bruno, Frank would never have got off the floor to beat Wlad. Do you feel AJ overrated?
Kinda no because I feel most don't view him as anything more than a "could-be-great but currently just the undefeated lineal champion with one big victory against old man Wlad..." However, there are a ton of people talking about how he'd be a top 10 HW all time if he beat Wilder and even some saying he will crack top 15 after Povetkin. To those people, absolutely very much yes.
Yes of course he's overrated but in reality no more overrated than every other dominant heavyweight who came before him. Being overrated is synonymous with being highly popular and favored among casuals, the two appear to be inseparable at the highest level. The truth is that Joshua is an elite boxer but like every other elite boxer he isn't invincible and it could be argued that he's already been exposed and more than once too. Nonetheless he's yet to lose a bout, has fought and beat some reasonably big names and naturally this is going to generate a great deal of hype and expectation, especially among casuals. The trick is not to buy into it, whilst remaining realistic about a boxer's perceived weaknesses and strengths, as this will prevent your opinion from being swayed by bias and adding to the hype (which is admittedly sometimes easier said than done.)
One problem he has is that he has a circus act on the WBC side of the equation. No disrespect to Wilder and Fury ... but the sooner they just play their cards, what-ever they are, the better. Wlad had similar problems with Haye and Fury (rematch period) big talking up their side but messing around for literally years.
It's weird. When I watch Joshua's fights, he appears more technically solid than Wilder in so many ways. He's looks more the traditional part too, looks physically stronger. And while Wlad is not my favorite champ of all time, he's certainly a better scalp than the guys on Wilder's resume up until now. Joshua's record at this stage of his career is just so much more impressive and he's still young. And yet, I can't shake the feeling that Wilder will flat out starch Joshua. Perhaps even way behind when it happens. Just a hunch.
Depends on whose doing the rating. But lets look at the facts. In his last 4 fights, Joshua has fought an ATG, late replacement for #1 mandatory, a world champion, and is about to fight another #1 mandatory. This is after 21 fights. No one in the heavyweight division fights and beats better opposition than Joshua, hes earned his stripes as top dog. Is he unbeatable? Of course not, hes over rated alot by some British diehards, but every good fighter has their own promotional fan base, some people on here even call Wilder a champion.
I think that he's definitely skilled, however I cannot believe that putting him in so tough, so quickly is actually allowing him to flourish like they might think that it is. IMO a fighter needs some easier fights to feel successful and confident and see/experience the growth process, and even enjoy the matches. If everything is a struggle then where is the passion going to flourish? He looks like he's plateaued as a result.
nah not overated has the tools to be heavyweight champion for 4-5 years more. UNLESS usyk can take his punches. that's the only guy I see Joshua losing 2. if usyk can handle joshuas power he can easily beat Joshua to a 12 round decision... baring non-corrupt uk scorecards .
He might be. One things for sure if he gets beat anytime soon youll see a hundred topics on how overrated he is then and how X fighter wouldve destroyed him etc.
