Is Anthony Joshua the most overrated champion of all time?

That was mostly British hype and press and it mainly had to do with his amateur accomplishments and his size. He looked like a Greek statue and what you would think the heavyweight champ would look like. But let’s be honest a lot of British heavyweights with a few exceptions ( LL TF)have not loved up to the hype the British media has created for them once they stepped up the competition.

He was definitely very overrated and overhyped coming into the pro game and for a good portion afterwards, but he also earned his stripes and carved out a genuinely solid career post Wlad victory. I've got more respect for him as a fighter now than I do for Fury, who's doing his best to swerve Usyk and is clearly terrified of ever losing his 0. That's a complete one eighty on how I thought about both men only a few years ago.

 

It's funny when you think about how overhyped Joshua's power is. He's knocked out some old men and that's literally it.

He never had Parker in trouble. He never had Ruiz in trouble (although he did manage 1 KD in 24 rounds), he never had Usyk in trouble. So in 60 rounds against top 10 heavyweights under the age of 40 he's only managed to get 1 knockdown. Pillow fists.

Agreed. Joshua has some talent, but not to level the public was/is being fed. He resume is, if fact, inflated. How so? If you look at Molina, Breazeale and Martin. Martin is by far the most accomplished, and three of these guys were in title fights vs AJ. Povetkin was a shell of his former self, Dillian "Nap Time" Whyte turned out to be a glass chinned loud mouth. Andy Ruiz, wasn't afraid of AJ, didn't believe the hype and beat up AJ, then decided just to make an appearance in the 2nd fight. J. Parker turned out to be average. Wlad was well past his prime, and if not given poor advice in his corner, ma have stopped AJ. Takam is a solid fighter, but more of a gate keeper than a contender.

AJ is not a true warrior, just doesn't have that gene in him. He is an athlete who was taught how to box. Did he look totally spent at the end of the Usyk fight? Didn't to me, he simply didn't dig enough inside himself to will his way to victory, simply due to him not having the warrior gene.

Joshua's biggest asset in Eddie Hearn, who I classify as the modern Don King.

I said I would pick Fury to win but AJ would be his best victory since Vlad. The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards Usyk against Fury. The freakish size disparity concerns me but I’ll never bet against Usyk. Fury looked so good in the second Wilder fight. I don’t think anyone beats that version but he’s a headcase and if the Wilder 3 version of Fury shows up, he’s beatable. Except by Wilder of course but I think Wilder is a hyped fighter who crushed a bunch of cans. Usyk and AJ both give Wilder a boxing lesson.

If Fury and Usyk ever fight, I’ll be glued to the screen. Two super skilled technical fighters. It will either be really good or really bad. I remember the Fury Vlad fight, one of the most unwatchable heavyweight fights in history.

 

The Fury from Wilder 3 fight still makes Joshua spit his gumshield out and quit by round 8.

Joshua is tailor made for Fury. A big, lumbering heavyweight with poor head movement, slow feet and terrible gas tank. It'd be as easy for him as the Whyte fight was. At least Wilder had the power to make his fights with Fury interesting, Joshua doesn't even have that.

 

Given your definition of top 10. That would mean Wilder has zero KOs against top 10 and only the KDs he scored against Fury.
This in turn trashes the whole division and would makes Usyk the clear #1...

Yes he's been seriously overrated, but now I think most observers know what he is. He has some boxing skills but he can't fight. Usyk had virtually nothing to fear from him and if they fought 10 times each fight would look the same. I'd say he's a less stiff Frank Bruno
