Is Anthony Yarde's power overrated?

Yarde threw the kitchen sink at Kovalev, and couldn't even knock him down. Compare that with how Canelo had Kovalev retreating, and knocked him out. We know Yarde's gas tank is not good, but I'm thinking his power at world level is average at best.

He can bang. Other than that, he's a trash can, but he can punch like a mothereffer.

World class average sound pretty damn good.
And never again compare Canelo to Yarde. Canelo is way ahead of him in terms of skill and boxing IQ.

Yarde´s power is fine as he is an exceptional athlete. It´s his actual boxing skills that are lacking. Like you said, he threw the damn kitchen sink at Kovalev, but that was all he really landed. Landed a bomb, hurt Kova and then ran out of steam.

Hits hard but had nothing down the final stretch against Kovalev. Needs to work on fitness otherwise solid fighters will just pick him off late everytime

I think his power is pretty legit personally. It’s his boxing ability that’s questionable

The powers is definitely there plus he trains hard and it seems he has some offensive talent, I think his problem is that he doesn’t spar, it’s very hard to find openings and counter mistakes if you don’t practice it in sparring, I also doubt he would run out of gas as much if he had a good sparring schedule leading up to a fight

Yarde didn't fight Kovalev on a rehydration clause and short turnaround.

Yarde can punch hard but his timing and accuracy are not good that is why he couldn't put kovalev away

Another way of looking at this would be that, in old boxing parlance, Yarde "softened" Kov up for Canelo..

    LOL!

Kovalev was softened up by Ward in the 2nd fight, he was on a downward spiral since those fights.

I mean, all three fights probably contributed to an extent.

And yet another way to look at it is, Kovalev had damn near jabbed his head off and Yarde was verging on dead tired, and that was one last gasp before the inevitable happened. Yarde's power would have probably been far more effective earlier, but so would Kovalev's. Power depletes as the gas tank empties, because you can no longer sit down on your shots. The same thing happened to Kovalev with Canelo, Canelo softened him up, and was conserving his energy, so his bomb late was far more effective. Had Kovalev been a little more brave, pushed the pace harder, maybe he'd have been KO'd, or maybe he's have hurt Canelo, followed up and got him out of there, I mean he did stun Canelo once with a pitty pat.

Agreed. The power is real but his boxing skills are-very raw. Big, strong dude with very little high level experience. Virtually no amateur career, starched a bunch of cans, very limited sparring and a crappy trainer add up to what you get with Yarde, raw power with an underdeveloped skill set. There’s no substitute for rounds in the ring with quality fighters.

He has a good excuse not to spar though, he doesn’t like the idea of going into a fight already damaged from sparring for months, not saying he shouldn’t spar , but he should get a better trainer that has a good sparring schedule which allows him to recover
