I'm rooting for JT this weekend and think he'll box this guy's ears off, but do you think the weight cutting could hurt him in this fight. Yes he did/does need to lose weight, but he's 43 now and weighed 157 in his last fight. :think

No I'm not getting any excuses ready for this weekend, but I'm just a little worried this could be a problem. He hasn't fought at Cruiserweight since 2003.

I'm hoping he cut the weight the right way and he doesn't exert himself too much in the ring and is the most relaxed fighter out there so maybe his conditioning won't fail him
    What yall think?

It is a sneaking suspicion on mine that it will be a negative in the fight, but he doesn't get hit flush a lot so he'll be in better shape than Roy.

I'm more worried about his age than his weight as Toney's had enough time to properly burn it off. He hasn't exactly looked spectacular in his last couple of fights.

At least its a 'svelte' 157. :patsch
But to the original question, I really don't worry about him for any reason.

Toney has shed 57 pounds way too fast, meaning he also lost muscle tissue along with the weight and will be seriously weakened. Toney's reflexes are gone, he can't slip punches anymore, and he's going to be hurt badly by Lebedev.

He gets hit easily now. He got hurt badly by total bum Matt Greer. He's so punch-drunk he can barely speak. He's got the cursed "Bad News Buddy" in his corner. Everything about this fight spells disaster for Toney.

Keyword. It isn't the same situation as Jones vs Tarver II or Tarver vs Hopkins where they were losing 25lbs and 45lbs almost entirely of muscle. Almost everything he lost was fat and his style doesn't rely upon movement or conditioning the same way Jones and to a lesser extent Tarver's did.

It will definitely hurt him. I'll be surprised if his punch resistance remains the same coming down in weight like that.

Toney hasn't looked good in a fight since the first Sam Peter fight over 5 years ago.

If he did win, I can only imagine what the MMA crowd would be saying, laughing that he can beat a top cruiserweight but got blown out by old Randy Couture in UFC. Dana White would have a field day.

    But he ain't gonna win.

I see all the weight loss being a negative, and Toney making excuses post fight

This. The drama of this fight is whether Lebedev will get the KO. People picking Toney are nutty:nut

Damn this may be worse than I thought. I was going to use this thread to make my decision on whether to put a lot of Vcash on him or not :?
