Honestly, this has to be the greatest P4P performance in boxing history.

The one sidedness. The absolute beauty in Ali's style. The fact that he did it against another legend.

There can't be a fighter in history better than Ali on that night.

I didn't think it was one sided at all tbh. Thought it was a close fight that Ali was shading.

He greatest performance ever was Robinson v LaMotta for the MW crown in my book.

I think most of that was down to Ali not being able to see properly. Liston did land some nasty body shots but Ali was one tough son of a *****. Liston is also a lot quicker than people realise.

There have been quite a few, probably, especially if you consider the various fights where guys moved up in weight and/or fought significantly bigger men. Fight wasn't particularly one-sided either.

PS- What, if any, percentage of your time do you spend watching non-heavyweights?

But who made it look as pretty as Ali? Who did it with such functional flare?

    Nobody in my eyes.

I agree, MKK. Liston looks faded to me in that fight, and it was still pretty close. Ali is rightly getting a lot of love at the moment, but there is a danger of a rewriting of history, too.

I thought Clay's performance was still lacking the completeness of a great fighter, he showed traits that signalled his inexperience.
For example, he seemed to have Liston stunned in round 3 but then allowed Liston to get back into the round and do some work and make it a close one. It is arguably an even round.
Clay was holding on but still taking digs from Liston.
And Liston looked sluggish or half-hearted, so that doesn't say much for Clay.

This was a couple of rounds before Clay was blinded, so no excuses.
And the fact that Clay seemed to want to quit at one point is another sign that he was not performing as great as he later proved to be.

I thought it was a fairly close fight in the scoring, but Clay was far better conditioned and actually wanted to win and prepared to go 15 rounds, whereas Liston was out of shape at the very least.

I can think of a few performances that I've seen where the winning fighter looked better.

    Foreman-Frazier, Pacquiao-Barrera, Jones-Toney, Duran-Leonard, Pryor-Arguello.

There have been more superior performances against as good or even better opponents, but I see the TS's point. Ali's speed, agility and awareness just looked surreal for a guy his size. Unlike anything before.

And I don't think it was close really. Liston won rds two and four on aggression. But all he did really was tiring himself by hitting air. That's not effective aggresion in my bok. The fifth he won because Clay was blinded, quite likely by Liston himself.

Clay landet far more clean punches and dictacted The action when he could see properly. That's not an even fight for me.

Greatest heavyweight performance perhaps - but not pound-per-pound or what not.
