I will say this flat out: I see two guys who failed to seize destiny. Kovalev, to me, won the first Andre Ward fight, but completely blew his shot at redemption. Ward is a great fighter, but I think we all know it had a lot to do with Kovalev's lifestyle. Canelo is always going to be the guy who lost to Mayweather. That was not in and of itself a terrible thing, as Mayweather is a great fighter, but given his natural weight advantage, there should have been some way. Also, his draw and "victory" against Golovkin were unimpressive, and I had Triple G winning both, though no one really impressed. I just see two good fighters that ultimately failed to seize the day in their biggest fights. Not excited.
So, because Kovalev and Canelo lost to probably the two best fighters the US has produced in the last twenty five years, you're not interested in this fight? That's some really bizarre logic and an awfully high standard you put on fighters. Who cares, appreciate it for what it is, not what you want or perceive it to be, stop thinking so much, and just watch the fight.
I'm hyped and interested... But.... There's a nagging doubt in my mind that says this is scripted and we're not going to witness a genuine fight this weekend. I'll still watch, they'll still get my money, but I'm not 100% convinced this fight is the real deal
This goes against my strict "No Supporting Canelo Promise To Myself" buuuuut, it's Kovalev. And this is a seriously awesome fight. Annnnd, I still feel the need to give tons of props to that steroid using, weight draining, gloves packing, ginger haired Mexican for taking this challenge with no catch weight against a guy who I feel is still VERY MUCH capable of KOing people. Even though I still dislike Canelo.
I can see how some people are sick of Canelo and the fog that surrounds his career. I am very intrigued for this fight
I am interested. I want to see Kovalev land on Canelo and test his chin at this weight. I think Canelo picked Kovalev because Kovalev is diminishing, and I want to Kovalev to do well because of this.
I’m not a big fan of Canelo but there’s no doubt he is a top fighter.. and the size of Kovalev and his decline makes this intriguing as you said. I like fights when I’m not certain of the outcome..
Ye but the gulf in experience between cinnamon & FMJ at that time was vast.. so you cant really judge him solely on that.. be fair.. judge him on his two fights with ageing GGG that he lost* & needed peds for lol
