Is anyone really taking De La Hoya v Pacquiao seriously???

I am a massive Manny Pacquiao fan, but come on...

    - Oscar De La Hoya made this fight happen because he wants to retire on a victory, and he wants that victory to be over the world pound-for-pound number 1. Pac is significantly lower-risk bigger-reward than Antonio Margarito

    - Manny Pacquiao accepted this fight because it will be the biggest payday he can ever have in his career. Plus it has the added bonus of also being low damage-big reward for him. When he loses, it is not going to reflect very badly on him at all because of the size difference

Oscar wins and retires, Manny loses but then returns to lightweight and continues to be the world's best fighter, and the world just keeps on turning....

    Am I wrong?

    :bbb

I would be the happiest man on the planet if Manny could pull this off, but I just can't see it happening at all.

    Thoughts/opinions???

Pacquiao WILL win this. The only doubts I have is if DLH absolutely nails him with that bomb of a left hook.

I think Pac will be too fast of hand and foot and will win this one.

Cheer up buddy, this is a big fight because Pac can really make DLH look like stupid.

If he gets beaten pretty easily he might retire.

Most likely, if he cant beat Pac, he'll try to fight Hatton or go ever lower down the weight classes and call out Izzy Vazquez....hahhaha

    my thoughts.

just as you said with calzaghe v jones.

you hedge your bets so you have everything covered for the fighters you like and the fighters you dont.

you said you would give calzaghe absolutley zero plaudits if he beats jones and then said you hoped jones would win.

now you are hedging your bets so no matter what pacman does he cannot lose status.

you must be standing as a politican in the next election as that is there stratergy as well.

my thoughts are this is a very hard task for paqman and the old saying a good big man beats a good little man should be true , but the fight is very intruiging.

persoannly i want paq to win and if he has carried his speed up his straight left down the pipem and quicker feet might give dlh a lot of problems.

on the downside no one knows at all what a 147 pac will look like and how his chin will cope and it is that unknown that makes dlh such a big favourite to win.

Maybe I'm becoming cynical these days. I just keep thinking that Oscar knows this is his golden farewell, Manny knows it is his biggest payday, and that's that. I hope Manny smashes his Golden Face in!!!!!

I doubt Pacquiao is going in there to lose. He's the one with little to lose and everything to gain in the fight, he'll give it his absolute best effort knowing the cards are stacked against him anyway.

If anybody is not taking it seriously its Panties, and he'll be in serious trouble that being the case.

My perceptions are true, people do think Pacman will actually win this fight.

Please do not impose your own childish mentality upon me mate, I said I would give Calzaghe zero credit for beating Jones because Jones was shot to bits. I say I can't take this fight seriously because I can't see how Pac can beat Oscar. I say what I think, my mind doesn't operate on a juvenile level of "hedging my bets", the very idea is absurd. I would have looked like a royal tit if Jones had won because I had been typing my fingers sore for months in anger at people thinking Roy would win when hasn't performed effectively at the top level for 4-5 years. I say what I believe and always will. Stupid accusation.

I'm taking it seriously as a competitive fight but NOT seriously as a meaningful matchup

I'm not saying Pac is going to go in there believing he has no chance, that's not his mentality, I think he's going in believing he can win, but I think this fight is primarily a payday, he is (rightly) taking it because it's the most money he will ever earn and a huge chance for exposure, but it doesn't have the legitimacy of Pac v JMM III, which would be a real superfight IMO.

I'm not saying that he isn't. However, its possible that somewhere in the back of his mind Hoya sees this as an easy fight against a little man for suitcases full of cash. It's not a good mentality to have.

Whereas from Pacquiao's mindset he has a lot of unknowns and adversity to deal with, focus won't be an issue.
