Is anyone up for doing a pre-1900 p4p top 10/15?

    20 plus fights after 1900 including a couple of title fights if memory serves, and he fought on until near the end of that decade, seriously until around 1905 I believe? I think i'm going to ask he be excluded. Fitzsimmons retired in 1914. I'm going to ask that he be excluded too.

    Gauging Charlie Mitchell pound for pound will be tough.

    You are very confused sir. Dempsey's career started in 1914 on record (Don't know about when he started as Kid Blackie).

    Only fighters who fought their careers before 1900 apply.

    Tommy Ryan and Joe Walcott overlap into the 1900's too much imo.Likewise Fitz.
    Peter Jackson and Joe Choynsky might be better picks?

    Mace had a gloved contest with Mitchell, so I suppose he squeaks in ,I don't know how many other gloved bouts he had.
    Kid Lavigne and Jimmy Barry are both very lively candidates imo.

    Fitz was a pre-1900 fighter without a doubt IMO. McCoy and Maher were great p4p fighters. Mike Donovan, Jack Burke, George Godfrey were other great fighters of that era. Corbett, Choynski were also pre 1900 fighters. I personally think of Ryan as a 19 century fighter-and a great one at that.

    Sullivan, Corbett, Fitz, Maher, Choynski, Jackson, Ryan, McCoy, Dempsey, McAulliffe, Griffo, McGovern, Dixon, Lavigne, Gans, McFadden, Erne, Donovan, godfrey, Childs, Byers...Damn that's 21 in my top 20. OK lose Godfrey. Didn't consider Foley or Mace as gloved fighters.

    Dempsey and McAuliffe are probably shoe-ins. The body of Fitz' work came pre-1900, he's missing wins over Gardner & Sharkey at the cut off point, but still has victories over Ruhlin, Maher and Corbett. Charles 'Kid' McCoy should probably feature aswelll. Wins over Tommy Ryan, Choynski and Ruhlin before 1900. Several of those beaten names could feature aswell.
