This is 100% in the wrong forum. Anyways I haven't made a list but I think Moore could sneak into the bottom half of a p4p top 10. I think he probably ranks around 8-14 or somewhere around there. Keep in mind that I really like longevity and past prime wins so I might rank him higher than most. It really depends on what your criteria is.

Wasn't even the best LHW of his era.

kinda hard to do that when you share an era with the LHW goat.

Had a rough go in his short run at heavyweight.
Had he gone up there and slayed Marciano or Ali, I would definitely

Yeah, and being top 10 pound for pound all time is kind of hard. Snark aside, no matter the weight class, there was always a guy who was better than him in his own era. When there are so many guys who showed to be able to be the best over multiple weight classes with resumes quite good (even if there aren't so many with resumes as good as Moore's), he can't be top 10 all time. No way.

He won like 60 fights at heavyweight, including many victories over top contenders of the time, while still making defenses of the light heavyweight crown. His only losses at the weight were against Marciano, Patterson, and a young Ali when Archie was ancient, even by today's standard.

He didn't do so badly at heavyweight.

What's your Top 10 look like? And how far removed is Archie?

Agreed, and yet all the same, I'm fascinated to see how it rolls.

And incidentally I agree with you here, too. I think he could coneivably sneak into a Top 10 list, and if not, I don't see him being too far removed to the point where having him inside the Top 10 can be deemed "unreasonable".

Not saying I disagree, but I think context is important By the time Archie finally got a shot at the title, Ezzard was already a former heavyweight champion who'd made 8 successful heavyweight title defenses. In other words, I believe you can make a reasonable case that by the time Archie hit his prime run (even for his age), Ezzard wasn't a player in the division; he had already effectively long since moved on and beyond. In that light, were they really even from the same era?

It probably looks similar to anyone else's, except that there's SRL instead of Duran. , in no particular order:

    Henry Armstrong
    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Joe Louis
    Ezzard Charles
    Floyd Mayweather
    Manny Pacquiao
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Muhammad Ali
    Willie Pep
    Zhilei Zhang

For what it's worth, the Survey I did in the Classic a few years back had Archie place at #13.

You know, I was thinking about this while I was typing both of my posts. I guess not really, but in a lot of ways it's worse to lose to the guy who was the best of the era before yours. A lot of Moore's best wins come from his late career, and he was a lot better than when he fought Charles probably, and he wasn't losing to the same opposition he was.

I guess I'll recant on my posts since I do think he got better post Charles.

It is an interesting situation, and for the record, I think you're right - you have to rate Ezzard over Archie. I don't think Archie was "green" when Ezzard beat him 3x, and you can perhaps argue Archie's long reign at 175 may not have transpired if Ezzard stayed dedicated to 175. But I do think Archie hit his peak stride during the stretch where he was both defending the light heavyweight belt, and also having a good run against some top guys at heavyweight, which earned him his shot at Rocky.
