I feel that regardless of accomplishments, when you put your life on the line the way Gatti did and consistently took punishment ( and finishing fights with broken body parts ect) and dangerous fights JUST to please the fans, then that should be an automatic ticket in. He didn't care about legacy, he loved his fans more then that. Just look at who he fought and all the wars and memories he gave us. The HOF IMO means more than how many alphabet belts you've won. The man put his life on the line for our entertainment. Who are we to say he "doesn't belong".
He doesn't have one elite win, Likes Bradley, Khan have better resumes than Gatti. Am a gatti fan, but I have to say that he often had no other choice but to get into a war because he wasn't good enough, it's not like morales and holyfield where he can box but chooses to go to war
Head says no, but I wouldn't have a problem with it because he was such a credit to the sport. On pure merits, no, but sometimes popularity goes guys an edge, an I'd rather he be a fighter people don't forget.
Applying the IBHOF's own criteria, he doesn't belong. This isn't being disrespectful or diminishing what he achieved in the ring. It's simply pointing out that his achievements in the ring are less than virtually any non-heavyweight inductee, and achievements are supposed to be what HOF worthiness is based on. If people want to apply their own criteria for induction and include intangibles and emotion, that's upto them. It's what most of the voters do anyway.
**** off with the "10 time champion" **** boxing is ridiculed enough without people who should know better misleading people with this kind of crap. gatti should be HOF because people ****ing loved him oscar should be for the same reason
Hell yea he should. Name a fighter today with a heart like Gatti's. He wasn't the most technical fighter but he gave A LOT of fans some classic wars and I'm sure introduced many people to the sport.
He had more heart than most fighters in his era unfortunately you need a little more than heart to get into HOF like some notable wins.
