We have all been piling onto Alex for taking the fight for the bogus WBA "regular" belt, for his possibly defending agaisnt Holy, and I was a pissed off as anybody at Alex for cancelling two fights with Wlad. I still am. The way he did it was pretty disgraceful. The general consenus of oppinion is that Alex should fight Wlad as soon as possible. In a recent interview, Atlas said that the time is not now right for Povetkin to fight Klit. He said (paraphrasing) that now that Alex has won a belt, defending it will only give him a chance to grow into a fighter who can challenge a Klit. Even in the face of the entire pretty disgraceful last three years, is Atlas right? We are always crying that there is no one out there who can give a Klit a fight. So, could having a title to draw good competition help develope Povetkin into the guy? Povetkin is not as feather fisted as some make on. He has a 68% knock out ration against some good comp. I support both Klits as great fighters, but it was not that long ago when everyone, even his fans, conceaded that WladKlit had a glass jaw. As for Vitaly, he is 40 years old. If Povetkin could bring himself up another level, might he make a fight of it, and can is WBA "regular" belt be his vehicle to do so?
i think atlas is right how many of these guys rush into a klit fight without being polished or ready many young fighters who have promise earn the mandatory spot or just earn marketability adn clout in the division and jump right in for the money the stardom and the what if i win well most get stopped and brutally and usually arent the same after povetkin isnt ready and may never be but i can say at 31 or 32 he isnt young he is in his prime and will be a few more years his time is now, maybe he is waiting for a slip up in wlad or for vitali to retire and unify with whoever gets the vacant WBC who knows i doubt hed let wlad retire and let the piggy bank pass him by
fighting holyfield is a disgrace/ and wont help him learn anything to fight klitschko..................................ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING.........at least fight a tall guy who is young like tyson fury or diminotrenko.....or even fukin michael grant at this point but not a 49 yr old holy 4 fuk sakes
Povetkin isn't going to step to the next level fighting shot senior citizens like Holyfield, Rahman, Meehan and Mormeck. All that paper belt does is help him maximize his earnings before he's backed into a corner once again by Wladimir Klitschko. He'll have to take his beating then or be stripped. By then he'll be 34 already, have pissed away his "prime" years and possibly be on the slide by then.
He is a ****ing scumbag. Instead of just saying he wasn't ready to fight Wlad, he and his handlers LIED TO THE FANS. Making false statements about the integrity of the Heavyweight Champ because you are too scared to fight him and not enough of a man to admit it is about as low as you can get. Haye may of been a loadmouth but he at least grew the balls to fight Wlad in less than 3 years in the division and at least he beat a paper champ (slick one too) to get his belt. Povetkin has been handed a false belt that is a further insult to the real Heavyweight Champ. And we all know the real reason Atlas wont let Bitchkin fight a Klit. His ego. Face it, this guy will never be ready and now that he's been outed for what he really is there's less pressure on him to man up. He's 32, a Gold medal amateur and has already fought some of the divisions best. He is not going to get any better. Waiting on Wlad to get older will backfire bigtime and makes him look like an even bigger vagina. If that's possible. Nobody should support him if he fights leftovers from the 90's.
If they stop being so inactive this wouldn't be an issue. They don't deserve praise for being active, it's should be a given. Wlad didn't sit on his heels. He fought his first 25 fights in 25 months then another 11 fights over the next two years and has always been active since. If you wanna be the champ then get out and fight. Simple.
Teddy is disgraceful in saying that not because what he's saying is incorrect (Yes, Povetkin has virtually no chance vs. Wlad) but because Atlas was pissing at Wlad for the last 7 years and was systematically picking Wlad's opponents to knock him out each and every time. Brewster II, Chagaev, Chambers etc. etc. etc. Every time Atlas said how Wlad has no heart, is easy to beat, will fall apart under pressure and be beat down into the ground. Now he had the chance to take his own man - a talented gold medalist ranked as #3 fighter in the world - and suddenly Atlas gets second thoughts. Atlas needs to stop talk **** about Wlad and respect his achievements in the ring, nothing else. We all know he's protecting Povetkin from getting knocked into early retirement without having built a sufficient financial nest egg.
Keeping Povetkin away from Wlad was smart, but making him fight cans has been a waste of time. It's completely defeated the objective of a few years to build up his fighter. Chagaev was a good win, Holyfield is a step backwards and won't earn him any new fans, that's for sure
Out of curiosity what happens with the whole WBA bs if say Povetkin unifies with Vitali? Lets say Vitali wins that, do we get 2 super champions and do they put the regular vacant again. Would Wlad remain super and does Vitali become the regular while also unified with WBC? Just wondering.
Yep, we had this discussion before... I have no idea how the WBA handles that scenario, but it only shows how crap and insane this belt mess is.
I just dont see povetkin getting any better. He'll have even less chance in 2 years time imo wheras Wlad will still be going strong.
Good take, but Holy is getting this shot for the $$$$ and name recognition he brings. But Grant would be a good test for his chin, and Pot could possibly give us a sweet looking KO. Then a fight with Fury, Wach, or Dimitrenko would prepare him for the Klitschko fight. IMO he should fight Vitali, not Wlad if there's any way around it. I think he defends easily against Holy, Grant miht be a tough fight for him, but I'd favor Pot to win since Grant is so tentative due to his shaky grill. He'd beat Wach and Fury rather easily, but Dimitrenko would be the hardest fight of them all. He's actually hard to hit for a big guy, and carries as much power as Grant. But I'd still favor Sasha to go into his tutleshell defense to get insdie and work the ample body of DImi for a win, maybe even a TKO from multiple body KD's.
