On the face of it, it looked a bit weird. Samuel Peter coming to London to face Britain's least important boxer Audley Harrison in a defence of his world strap. Very strange indeed - Harrison has done nothing to warrant a shot. In fact, I'd cast a wry glance at Harrison getting a shot at the British title at the moment. Peter's camp reacted by claiming they know nothing about the agreement so Frank Warren claims that a deal has been done to put Harrison or counterpart Matt Skelton in the ring in July. Still all very fishy. So I think about it further. We have Frank Warren [Promoter of both Harrison & Skelton] and Don King [Peter] involved on both sides. What's the other obvious common link between the two? None other than Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jnr. It all seems too obvious. Warren's prepared to sacrifice one of his boys for some sort of deal with RJJ. Harrison should get the battering of his life and Frank doesn't give a flying **** about the boxer he himself called "Audinary" and "A-Farce". He'll give Harrison the title shot he promised, make all parties a bit of cash (I'm sure Don and Frank are quite partial to a bit of that) and set up the pre-amble for Calzaghe vs Jones. Or am I reading too much into this?
Its an interesting point you make but I dont think Warren needs to sacrifice Fraudley or Skelton to get RJJ v Calzaghe. Bottom line, RJJ v Calzaghe will make plenty of money for both fighters & promoters
While there is certainly no love between Fraudley and Warren, Warren likes his cash and likes few things more than an international match where he benefits from whatever happens: either he gets a piece of the title or gets to see someone who has defied his will beaten up. Either way, Fwank will wank over the result, making this a real possibility.
What if King is giving Peter to Warren to get Calzaghe? After all, Calzaghe could fight Pavlik for just as much (if not more) money, I suspect.
