maybe its because he wasn't as charismatic and emotional as guys like Chavez and Morales and didn't wear his heart on his sleeve, although he did in the ring and was great to watch. the general public are always allured by fighters they can either relate to or they find vulnerable and they feel for, other factors like how your portrayed and who your rivals and defining opposition are has something to do with it (beating a more beloved fighter then you doesn't help, for example bugner beating cooper, Lewis beating Bruno, Frazier being a big rival of Ali, DLH beating chavez and so on) didn't Barrera make a remark about the indigenous people of Mexico?

Barerra should be respected and revered my all boxing fans and all of Mexico, the man was a truly great fighter, i've got him in the top 5 of all time Mexicans with only sanchez, chavez and maybe canto ahead of him

Barrera is well respected in Mexico. In northern Mexico Morales is more liked, cuz that's what he rep'ed, just liked Barrera is favored in the D.F. region.

You've gotta be kidding me. Morales personifies everything good about boxing. If any fighter is a warrior he is. It was obvious before the final Pac fight that he shouldn't be fighting any more.

I'd imagine that Barrera is less liked in Mexico because a) he is a poster boy for a more privileged class than the average b) he has consistently showed some disgraceful character inside and outside the ring, such as punching Morales and running at a press conference, almost KOing Marquez when he was defenseless on the canvas after a KD, and scoring some of his biggest punches against Pac on the break, to name a few. The guy is an absolute legend but I think he's difficult to like cos he's kind of a weasel.

Excellent fighter, but had a nasty side to him too....

    - Sucker punching Pac after referee telling them to stop
    - Morales press conference punch
    - Throwing an uppercut to JMM's head when he was down

Furthermore, he was always the least popular out of him and Morales. Coming in to their first bout, Erik was the far more popular. It's no secret that they hate each other, with Morales I remember saying on one of the HBO countdowns the following:

"No, I don't hate him anymore. I treat people the way they treat me. He's just a motherfu--er. It's that simple."

    lol brilliant

If anybody calls me a ****** they will a smack in the mouth too. Morales deserved it. I'm sure the great warrior Erik knew it was coming.

man, if anyone knows where I can get vids of the old HBO Countdown shows, PM me.

They were epic. I miss them, dearly.
They had a different quality to 24/7 which runs more like a drama.

Ok, but what did Pac do to deserve that sucker shot? He's one of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet. It's always wrong to hit a good guy :nono

All I remember about the sucker shot is Manny running around the ring trying to win an oscar. Hilarious.

Anyone like Radab calling someone accomplished as Marco a "turd" is a complete joke. He's achieved twice as much as any of you could possibly achieve in three lifetimes, and putting aside the few occasions where he hit on the break (big ****in' deal), let's talk about the 20 year career he had, spanning 5 weight divisions, earning titles and taking names. That's why he's a 1st Ballot hall of famer, ATG.

One of the greatest fighters I have ever seen on film, period.
