Is being reluctant to throw punches a sign of shotness?

I think that we don't really know HOW shot Jones actually is. Of course, it's obvious that he is not the Roy of 8 years ago, but that he is too reluctant/afraid to throw punches doesn't give an indication how shot (or not) he is imo.

He just doesn't throw punches anymore, but does that mean that he can't??

    Why do you guys think?

well its certainly an indication he aint in his prime....

he looked outgunned and bafoozled all night....his lack of activity is in line with his level of confidence...

so yeah I reckon its at least one indicator of being shot....

It simply means he's afraid to engage, IMO because he's worried about getting knocked out again. He was the same in Tarver III.

If it means that he consistantly performs at a far lower level than he use to be capable of, than yes. The major factors that have led to the decline of Jones ability in the ring are:

    - Decline in work rate
    - Decline in foot speed, movement and endurance in these areas
    - Decline in reflexes
    - Absence of a killer instinct, unable to pull the trigger - mental issues that resulted from the terrible injuries suffered by Gman and Roy's brutal knockout losses

These were quintessential to Roy's game, without them, he isn't half the fighter he was.

Roy seemed to be doing good in the first round. I think Joe just got into his head and took him off his game.

Yes. Remember how few punches Tyson threw in his final couple of fights, in particular the Lewis fight. Likewise with Holyfiled.

A sign a fighter is shot is when they cease engaging like they used to.

roy was so good at countering just as you threw a punch. he can't do that anymore. just that split sceond decline in reflexes and speed will do that. roy is old, man. thats it. its sad and ****, but w/e.
