Like I said a hundred times, if a fighter is undefeated nowadays it usually mean they haven't fought no one. And I stand by that. Outside of The Rock, all ATG have multiple losses because back then in the days you fought number 1 contenders, not Bill sitting outside the liquor store.
Being undefeated matters if you are a champion and beat champions and had a lot of title defenses are known and attract attention and beat undefeated champions and challengers and different styles of fighters and sell the most fights and make the most money and are the most controversial and has been and always will be the favorite to win any fight you've had and any fight we can think of to put you in,because then we're workin' with somethin'.It's rare to have a fighter like that, but when you do,it's a big deal.
Big deal, of course it is. Does it matter in terms of greatness? It depends. Floyd's zero is great by itself there's no denying that. But not as great as what Floyd and his fans make it out to be. Not even close.
It really depends who the boxer fights. A boxer with a ABC title can easily stay undefeated if they spend most of their time fighting only mandatory challengers.
for hype and money sake...yup other than that...it does nothing for your legacy if its just quantity and not quality.
In the old days being undefeated meant very little. One loss now-a-days is the end of a career sometimes.
Ali hand picked opponents.........they were all inferior to him.He lost a few times, but only by coincidence and chance.Ali is "considered" an undefeated fighter. That's why all of his defeats are granted a "but" or "because",gently wiping them away. The same is true for Robinson.Undefeated matters.
