It seems like more guys are trained by their fathers these days. I think a lot of the truly excellent trainers have passed. Davidson is ok, he obviously has something that keeps fighters coming back to him despite the limitations that have been discussed. @Badbot McGirt was trained under Al Certo if I'm remembering this right and the job he did with the second half of Gattis career was fairly impressive as he helped Gatti with a second act to a career that I thought would have no longevity. It's a shame more guys don't try to work with Montell Griffin as he was pretty cagey back in the day and he was trained by Eddie Futch.
yeah i thought Lee as a trainer was or is a way of him just becoming another kronk/steward of Steward role. but his in ring management is exceptional. Not in a movie scene where the horns overture rises while a rough old pug expouses the virtues of life, trying to change the destiny for his charge. Lee around round 2 of the wilder fight against a feared puncher. "easy isnt it". took the fear and the anxiety out of the situation. made it business and sport not a grand tide of momentum that was inevitable the unravelled half of wilders opponents. against zhang same thing. gets dropped. told him his exits and calmed him down got him to do his job. excellent.
excellent choice ive wondered that as well. he is almost a fighter completly based on tech and creativity instead of physical attributes. short, stubby, late into the game, not much engine, or power.. but his ability to create spots and get out of trouble is amazing. the way he picked off RJJ's fients that made roy back up in to corners is really great to watch. just perusing the net. smokes blunts, watches basketball and does a kids boxing class on weekends...i mean. i dont think he knows how much of a wealth and unique expereince he has. guy is an olympian, trained by the greatest trainer of all time, beat boxing two p4p number 1's and is still pretty much in the sport and in good shape. the other one is Casamayor. he is with some of the best camps and gyms globally. yet nobody has him as in-ring. feel like i need to go pro and just spend my money on these two in my corner just to get their reps up and then become one of their staff then start the proccess again and
Stan Johnson, Gerald McClellan's trainer for the Nigel Benn fight, is probably the worst trainer I've ever seen. Useless and a proper weirdo.
Kirkland was an overachiever, he actually had some decent wins. And that comeback KO vs Angulo was fantastic. I think he is actually underrated these days. But he was certainly not world class and mainly found success because 154lbs is generally a **** division.
No you are not being to harsh. He is a young trainer learning his trade with his team. He is okay but far from the finished article. He could do with a wise old head to mentor him.
He's probably just an unfortunate combination of well-known and below par. Somewhere in the mediocre to poor category rather than outright ****. Of the top heavyweight trainers about at the moment for me the worst has to be Joey Gamache.
