That was a man who made champions out of the likes of Cotto, Tommy Hearns, Oscar De La Hoya, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Oliver Mccall His arrogance matched his pedigree That jumped up man bun wearing pure gym fitness instructor cannot be named in the same breath and has misplaced arrogance. I credit him for helping and motivating fury to lose all that weight. Beyond that the one big fight Fury was involved in , there were 5 other mor experienced trainers helping him to guide him through the fight, while ben was sitting in the crowd praying to the heavens, with his eyes closed and hands clasped hoping that his fighter would make it through. In my book he's a glorified cheerleader. Nothing more. Fury may as well be his own coach in the ring because at this point Ben only serves as a body. Not too dissimilar to Eubank Jr and his old regime where Chris was more or less training himself and doing what he wanted to do in the ring.
Perhaps he is the Peter Taylor to Fury's Brian Clough. Clough worked well with Taylor as they were great friends, and trusted each other to do the best by one another. I feel that Davison is someone Fury enjoys working with, and who knows if he is a brilliant coach or not, it is working with Fury, so long may it continue.
So if its working for Fury, what’s the problem? I don’t remember anyone, including Davison, hailing him/himself as some sort of boxing guru. He is the trainer of a boxing icon. Everyone wants a piece of Fury and anyone connected with him - not least to sell the PPV’s. Davison is merely doing his job to the best of his ability & Fury is happy with the results - fair play to him.
This is my suspicion also. You don’t just roll out of a fitness gym and suddenly become an elite boxing trainer. He talks a good game and is clearly knowledgeable about boxing but that doesn’t make you a good trainer. Plenty of people who are very knowledgeable about boxing on here also. I might be wrong but I don’t think Tyson take this guy too seriously tbh. They just seem like good mates.
I don't know how good Davison really is, but I know he's almost perfect for Tyson and Saunders who both needed the same things from a trainer - someone to keep them fit and motivated while polishing their skills. How he fairs with Lowe will tell us more about him, but as said, Tyson and Saundera don't need anything more than they're getting from Ben. He's keeping them in the gym fulk time and both look great inside and outside the ring. That in itself is a huge achievement. As regards his media stuff, he probably comes across a bit too confident for a trainer his age but he obviously feels he has to. All in all, it's a job very well done so far.
I like him. I think his analysis of fighters is very perceptive and always interesting. There was a clip from BT before Khan's fight with Crawford where he explained one of Khan's flaws and then they showed him being knocked down in exactly that situation.
Yes. A total idiot who thinks he knows it all about boxing and has a smug arrogant persona about him. Remember the days of him giggling away all red-faced and shy in the background, leeching onto Fury and Saunders. Now the man can't stop getting in front of the camera, it's all gone to his head. Absolute bluffer.
