Does Benavidez bring positives this sport is sorely lacking?

The term "human race" is a very common idiom which is synonymous with the term species. Its usage actually predates the modern context of the word race. A bit of an antiquated phrase perhaps, but far from incorrect.

However, you do raise an excellent point. Being of mixed race descent is another thing the two share, in addition to the aforementioned similarities. I also forgot to mention they reside on planet earth and were both born in the USA. Both resided in Arizona at some point, even! Realizing now that there are sorts of shared trails between these two

I also think Canelo said he plans to retire by the time he's 35 or so, so at this point I doubt he's in it to build onto his legacy and is now intending on making as much money as he can with the time he has left. I do believe he could beat Benavidez at this point, but the young man is certainly a risky fight. Given that a loss can damage one's marketability these days, and he's already suffered a recent one against Bivol, I have a feeling Canelo plans on just playing it safe for the next couple of years and using his branding to make a ton of money from fights that are comparatively low risk.

Damn shame too, I think it'd be a fun fight, and while I back Canelo to win I don't rule out a Benavidez victory. But at this point, I'm in the same boat of hoping he moves onto 175. If he must stay at 168 though, failing a fight with Canelo I'd be happy to see him up against David Morrell.
