Ring magazine made a list in 2002 about the 80 best fighters of the last 80 years.Hopkins ranked number 50 above Carlos Ortiz at 61.Hopkins has gone on to dominate William Joppy,Howard Eastman,Robert Allen,Oscar De La Hoya,Antonio Tarver,Winky Wright and Kelly Pavlik in the years since. The wright and Pavlik fights erased alot of the stain from the Taylor losses in my opinion aswell. The Calzaghe fight could have gone either way little harm in that either.
That list is terrible. It has Marciano above Charles, Dempsey above Hagler, and George Foreman above Kid Gavlian. It is horrific. But my post wasn't about the individuals above Hopkins it was about the point you made - that two wins against good oposition could cause him to leap frog that many spots. There is just no way. It is ridiculous.
Why does he need someone else?! What wins does Hopkins have to equal a second round blow out of Roberto Duran?! And while you are at it, which victory does he have that compares to the Benitez scalp?! Hopkins is 0-2 versus the other men on my 100. Hearns, though he has losses against the best he fought, also has wins. Against Hagler (top 35 all time lock) and Sugar Ray Leonard (all time top 15 lock). Surely better than back to back defeats against Taylor.
Am I mistaken but doesn't Hagler have two losses and two draws against decent competition.Willie 'the worm' Monroe guys like that.
i ****ing knew you were gonna say that. in calzaghe he was fighting someone his own natural size. come on . who would win out of calzaghe and trinidad ?
If you were to ask of the last thirty years i would def say he would make the top 30 but to say of all time i just think its to close and hard to definetly say he would make the top 30.
He lost to fighters who aren't great ones, yes. Willie Monroe was a tough ******* though, and Hagler brutally avenged that loss twice. I rate Hagler above Hopkins, but I think Hopkins could have beaten him.
the quality of the fight matters when you look back over a fighters career surely. only on another thread today you're claiming marquez should be above calzaghe based on the pac fight, a loss!! make your mind up.
