Is he going to become "Canadian" to increase his potential fan base and world wide notoriety? It's a reminiscent anaIog of how Lennox Lewis became "british" to do the same. Huge respect to Beterbeiv either way, I think he is the truth. The only style I see beating him is a slick, savvy, defensive boxer. Kovalev has the skills to box him but I see Artur getting inside and making it a fight. Both guys have big power so who knows? Here's a highlight video to entertain those who still don't know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8vX20gx0t0
Lewis was born in Britain, spent his formative years there, but then you already knew that. Supposed to be true of Kovalev and Golovkin also, I'm sceptical of these claims.
I thought he spent his formative, teen years in Canada? Didn't he win gold for Canada as well? I remember reading some article about why he decided to turn pro in the UK and he said it was a calculated financial decision made by his promoter. I guess olympic gold medalists get scooped up quick and shipped off to the most profitable market.
A slick boxer is NOT beating Kovalev. Golovkin is more likely but still not likely. I don't see Beterbiev as being nearly as good at cutting off the ring as Golovkin or boxing outside as Kovalev.
lol enough trolling. Lennox would've been the big British kid when he went to school in Canada. Definitely would have been a financial element to representing the UK, I expect Nigel Benn's son will represent UK in the pros too, but he'll be boxing for Barbados in the Olympics. With Beterbiev, why did he choose Canada?
Honestly if there was a well developed Montrael boxing scene back when LL was starting his career he`d currently be known as TBE Canadian boxer. Maybe Second best....Sam Langford was a badass.
He was born in West Ham, London. Moved to Canada at 12. The Jamaican link is his parents who were born in Jamaica, and his wife who is Jamaican. On his mother: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2006/apr/02/boxing.features
Violet lewis was a great mother to lennox lewis, a single parent who raised 2 great sons. His dad was a bit of a dosser though from what I've read.
Not sure why he would want to do that Boxing is dead in Canada other than within Montreal and even there, it's not THAT big. Really isn't. It's literally non existent in the other 12 Provinces/Territories.
