I never thought I would place him 1st but I have to give it to him as the best middle weight ever but I think he is now. The man is just simply brilliant to be able to do what he did last saturday and outboxed a high volumed, undefeated, young, hard hitting pavlik. Out throwing and out classed the young lion in a shut out performance. I did have Hagler above Bhop but Hagler never showed that he could win another way while Bhop can outbox all sizes. He a great great chin, skills and defense. I rate him number 1 now.
No. Monzon & Hagler are ahead of him. Hopkins does not have enough on his resume AT 160 to surpass both fighters.
No. Pavlik has been grossly overrated on here for quite some time. I had cautiously predicted a close but clear UD for Hopkins - but didn't anticipate the ease at which he totally disarmed Pavlik. The following are ahead..... Ray Robinson Marvin Hagler Ray Leonard - could be said Ray was a welter Tommy Hearns - ditto Roy Jones Plus a few others. Hopkins would play with Toney though.
I have to agree with that. Pavlik, Winky, Tarver, all fight were north of 160. Fighting Kelly and Ronald back at 160 would've changed his MW resume, but all happened at LHW. But that won't affect his ATG place... just his legacy is parted to multiple divisions just like Jones' and other legends'.
yeah but a large part of robinsons carrer was as welter leonards was to even hearns was welter and then alot higher then middle hearns leonard 2 was at super middle then theres roy where more than half his fights are at smw or higher so as far as pure middle weights hop's is ranked higher than at least jones leonard an hearns imo
Monzon and Hagler's MW resumes both eclipse Hopkins's easily. P4P would be a better argument as you can take into account work outside of MW.
He's definitely in the top two. You can interchange him, Hagler, and Monzon wherever you'd like. I rank him a pinch ahead of Monzon and about tied with Hagler. Also note, though, that some of Hopkins' best wins have been above 160...so I tend to put Hagler above him. Hagler and Hopkins, though, are two of the greatest fighters who ever lived. I tend to put hagler in my top 10 ATG's. Hopkins is probably top 15-25 at this point.
No his middleweight reign was pretty weak if you ask me. He has the longevity and the record defenses but the competition was very very weak. His accomplisments after leaving the division have been more impressive.
How can you have Hopkins in a near tie at middleweight with Hagler but well below him has an ATG? If you have them close at middleweight then surely Hopkins work outside 160 should put him above Hagler who did nothing outside 160 when you are talking ATG?
