Is Bowe vs Holyfield 1 really that good of a fight?

    I liked all 3 fights

First fight had more consistent action than the second, but the second was the most closely contested.

I remember Larry Merchant pointing out during the rubber match that the crowd is quiet because they don’t really get a good view on the infighting that was taking place, but it was quality stuff. I definitely agree.

It’s been many years. I recall it being a pretty good fight to watch through the first two thirds that went into stratosphere level in the last third. Am I recalling it too fondly? I don’t know.

    You’ve inspired me to rewatch.

Okay, so I sat down with this just now. I have to say, you are a very harsh judge of entertainment, Sir. I’d hate to be a Gladiator seeking your approval in the Colosseum.

This was every inch the fight I remembered it to be. Within a minute of the fight’s commencement, we have our first serious shots landing. By round’s end, there have been no fewer than four significant exchanges. Halfway through round two, the fight gets so willing that Cortez can’t separate them when he tries to intervene but it’s simply too dangerous, as a war has broken out in ring center. But these are mere hors d’oeuvres - the main course is spellbinding. Those first eight stanzas you called super boring, I found truly intense, & it only got better thereafter.

What can I tell you? The board here saw a different fight than you did. But contrary opinions happen.

Haha, it happens. maybe I gotta just rewatch it sometime again. Maybe I shouldn't watch stuff like that on a day with a hangover

I highly recommend a rewatch. One of the things I find entertaining is keeping an eye on Bowe's jab. You'll find it had more to do with that victory than first appearances might reveal.

Bowe had an excellent jab; in the battle of lefts I have to give to him over even Steward era Lewis. Futch was creating quite the monster at the time.

Don’t let anybody tell you how to feel, mind. If you’re not entertained, you’re not.

I agree with what Ney just said, save for that I believe you should let me tell you how to feel, because I think that I would do a pretty good job of steering you the right way.

It's one of the greatest heavyweight fights of the 1990 s, in fact for many years.

Among other factors that forum members liked about Holyfield Vs. Bowe 1...
This fight is part of a trilogy that ranks second in the history of the heavyweight division.
The first trilogy is Ali Vs. Frazier.

It was definitely the most closely contested of their fights.

There were so many bizarre HW fights in the 90s and Bowe was in a lot of them.

well, hell.. most definitely. nothing but nothing goes good with a hangover.

Certified, one of the greatest fights in heavyweight boxing history. Actually, that fight could almost cure a hangover.

You know what’s good for a hangover?

    Drinking heavily the night before.

    Works every time.
