Is Bowe vs Holyfield 1 really that good of a fight?

You are the first person I've ever seen hold this position. It's really a crazy position. I can only name maybe 20 HW fights that were better than this fight, and I mean out of all HW fights I've ever seen in my life. If you would've said this about Bowe/Holy 3 I could understand that, they were both (at the time) sputtering fumes (Bowe more than Holy yet he still somehow won) but the first fight??????

Holyfield - Bowe, Frazier - Ali 1, and Holmes - Norton are all good heavyweight fights. Two others that I consider at the same level are Holmes-Weaver 1, and Povetkin - Takam. I'd probably rate those 5 fights as the best heavyweight fights I've seen. I couldn't rate them in order. All of them were skilled fighters and there was a lot of back and forth action.

One that I'd rate just below those 5 is Weaver - Thomas. Thomas took some punches from Weaver that amazed me, he took punches from a huge puncher while he was throwing punches and at other times too when he didn't see them coming. He took them and shook them off. I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting.

 

That's a really good fight. I was delightedly surprised to see how good Mike's jab was in that fight. Perhaps he would have won had he been 5 years younger (Holmes fight).

To me Weaver is a two-time champ, I had him beating Dokes II by 4 points.

 

If that’s not a good heavyweight fight, I’d like to see what OP defines as one.

Maybe he just wants toughman style slugfests?

I don't even think the biggest detractors of either boxer would say this fight was lacking in excitement or quality. It's easily one of the top 10 best fights in HW history imo. Not sure where you're getting the notion they were inactive/pacing slowly the first 8 rounds because there was plenty of furious exchanges and blows being thrown in the beginning, middle, and end.

Didn't the crowd give them a standing ovation...?
