Jerry's opinion seems, to me, correct. Think about the woman who yelled from ringside at the.slaughter.of Willard, "Give me the big guy's teeth. I want the big guy's teeth!" Or how all of us applaud with glee.when our guy renders another man unconscious.

    I'd say he's right.

Absolutely. Its a cruel sport both in and out of the ring weather we're talking about the physical punishment these men take, the corrupt business scandals they fall victim to, the slandering they receive from the press, or the appalling behavior of the fans at ringside.

Its a "real" sport. Its real because its cruel and vicious just like life can be. Id rather watch boxing than soccer/football where the boys with plucked eyebrows lie on the floor for 5 minutes and cry like babies after slipping on the grass.

Bang on. Remember poor Johnny Owen going a terrific 12 rounds with Lupe Pintor? It was back in late 1980, I watched the fight and was appalled at the so-called boxing fans, scumbags should I say, who probably had never stepped into the squared circle in their miserable lives,, saw fit to throw cups of urine over poor Johnny as he was taken out of the ring on a stretcher, his life ebbing away. He died of brain injuries a month or so later.

Absolutely. The screams of "Quitter" when Willard stayed on his stool are enough evidence.

I detest irate and obnoxious fans, even if they are rooting for the same team or athlete that I am cheering for. I don't like to see anyone get badly hurt or belittled even if I don't particularly care for them. At the end of the day people need to remind themselves that these athletes are humans with families, feelings, etc. and that this is a game not war.

U couldn't have picked a better example of how cruel the sport can be. I felt like crying when I read about Johnny. How he'd never even had the chance to kiss a girl , and what they did to him as he was stretchered out of the arena. Probably as cruel as a sport can be.

Every sport where the participants take a physical beating is to some extent. Boxing, UFC, NFL, hockey, etc. And every sport can be dangerous...I've seen horrific leg breaks in soccer, and there's even been deaths on the field (heart attacks) and life-threatening injuries (ex. Petr Cech's skull fracture) in soccer.

Most of the viciousness is from casual fans who have never even set foot in a ring .I find this if I watch a big event on tv sometimes with people who are drunk and suddenly become experts calling fighters bums etc.Iam in my mid forties but still train and spar but luckily the younger guys go a bit steady with an old git like me but the idiots I her shouting and giving it the barrys wouldn't have the bottle to set foot in a boxing gym.

    Yes.

It is very similar to the Roman Gladiators. But, we love the vicarious excitement we draw from it.

they know the risks, and about getting ripped off, people in all businesses get ripped off if their not carful. I love boxing, but hate when I see a guy really take a bad beating. I don't like that, and I wouldn't cheer while that is going on. I don't want to see someone get hurt, I want to see a boxing match.
