Would you say most Boxing fans are older males. Younger generation seems to be all about team sports (MLB,NBA,NFL) or UFC. Only time they talk about Boxing is when Pacquaio or Mayweather fight.

As a young boxing fan,20 years old...most of the more dedicated boxing fans do be older people.

None of my friends can name a fighter outside of mayweather, pacquio, tyson, rjj, and ali.

Your other point has some truth to it as well. I enjoy boxing but its my 3rd favorite sport behind football and basketball.

Boxing does have an older fan base; particularly when compared to the UFC or NBA. The great news for us now is that males 35-60 are the highest earning demographic, by far. Content providers want to get some of their disposable dollars.

I'm 36, so I do wonder if Showtime and HBO will be showing MMA instead of boxing when I get older.

Young man's game; old man's sport.

    Both adages are generally true.

    It's usually geezers watching kids.

    Kinda creepy. :err

You can make a poll on esb and see what the median age is, I think it will be somewhere between 25-35.

One can basically say the same thing about baseball. When a team has success and the bandwagon builds, young people jump on board. But during the lean years and in Spring Training, it's the older crowd who account for all the season seats.

I must be a child with an old soul because those two have always been my favorites.

The ones that only mention the big names are the casuals and the majority are casuals. In any fanbase the casuals will always outnumber the hardcore fans.

Boxing will never be doomed. It's a sport that will move on like all other historic sports do.

When I was an 18 year old kid, the definition for an *old* man was something like 60 years old or more for me and my friends. Common now guys, if you label a 40-year-old to be an old man you will only have about 20 years left and You yourselves will be *old* by your own definition :D

It does seem that kids nowadays prefer sports like snowboarding, parkour, BMX biking etc. compared to boxing. So it might be that we are experiencing the downfall of the sport already. The team sports have always been competing with individual sports and I don't see too much change there watching my kids and their friends choose their free-time activities.

Most all of the young guys (16 - 20) at my gym are only there to learn and work 'hands' for their MMA training.

Outside of Pacquiao and Mayweather, almost none of them could name another active boxer for a million dollars.

    Makes me feel old(er).
